Season 2 of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show debuted on Sept. 17, picking up after the dramatic season 1 conclusion. When Reese Witherspoon’s character Bradley became the co-host of The Morning Show, tensions quickly rose. She and Jennifer Aniston’s character Alex Levy butted heads quite a bit in season 1. For Witherspoon and Aniston, the scenes where Alex and Bradley argue and yell at each other were challenging to film — but not for the reason you might think.

Tensions rose on ‘The Morning Show’ Season 1

In season 1, Mitch Kessler, co-host of The Morning Show, is fired for sexual misconduct. His replacement Bradley is very different from the polished, rehearsed Alex. However, Bradley gains popularity on The Morning Show for her candid conversations and willingness to discuss controversial topics.

Tensions rise as Bradley becomes more successful and Alex worries she will be pushed out. The struggle for power between these two women leads to some pretty heated arguments throughout the series. But these scenes were difficult for friends Aniston and Witherspoon to take seriously.

Despite their on-screen rivalry, Aniston and Witherspoon are actually good friends. Aniston admitted that it was hard to yell at Witherspoon during some of the more heated scenes in The Morning Show.

“She’s such a sweet burst of sunshine that she’s not someone you want to go scream your head off to,” Aniston said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “And I usually always end up bursting into laughter at some point. It’s just too hard to be mad with each other.”

Witherspoon confirmed that it was hard to stay serious during her and Aniston’s on-screen arguments. “I have to say when we do our fighting scenes, it’s really hard not to laugh and crack up because we have to be so mean to each other, and we just love each other so much,” Witherspoon told People. “She’s literally one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

I was really nervous, and she was like, ‘Oh, my gosh—don’t worry about it!'” Witherspoon told Harper’s Bazaar.
