While there are plenty of things to love about The Office, fans of the show seem to have a particular affinity for the relationship between Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly. In many ways, Jim and Pam served as the emotional heartbeat for the show even before they finally became an official couple. The pair’s relationship helps to ground some of the more outlandish comedy and many fans are constantly declaring that they are “couple goals.”

Though Jim and Pam had plenty of sweet moments throughout the nine seasons of The Office, the first time Jim professes his love to Pam in the “Casino Night” episode is a clear standout. This is the first time that viewers really get to see Jim have an honest conversation with Pam about how he feels about her. Furthermore, this episode also marks what most fans consider the couple’s “first real kiss.”

‘The Office’ cast was nervous to film the infamous Jim and Pam kiss

Of course, diehard fans of The Office will recall that Jim and Pam first locked lips during “The Dundies” episode. After drinking way too much at her local Chili’s, Pam plants a kiss on a surprised Jim after she wins the award for whitest sneakers in the office. However, the kiss that viewers witness in “Casino Night” is far more intimate and indicative of the feelings that the pair have for one another.

Though the “Casino Night” kiss seemed incredibly natural to fans, both John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer (who played Jim and Pam in The Office) were actually extremely nervous to film the scene. Like fans, they too were waiting on bated breath to see if and when their characters would finally have to confront their feelings for one another. In a behind-the-scenes video released by Peacock, Krasinski got candid about filming the iconic scene.

Filming for the ‘Casino Night’ episode was very meticulous

“What people don’t realize is that Jenna and I were as nervous to do that and find out about it,” Krasinski shared. “Like, we were dying to know how they were going to end it. We didn’t know how it was going to happen, when it was going to happen, under what circumstances and it was just really, really fun to do.”

The Office production crew also went out of their way to make sure that the scene was as intimate as possible. Fischer revealed that they cleared all of the actors off the set and even hid the cameramen so that she and Krasinski could really get in the moment. According to Krasinski, that’s usually only done in films when there’s a scene involving nudity.

John Krasinski says ‘The Office’ crew treated his scene with Jenna Fischer like a nude scene

“Which is what they do for like big nude scenes in movies and it was really wild,” Krasinski stated. “It was very quiet, the lights were really dim and you felt like something intense was happening.” Clearly, The Office cast and crew went to great lengths to make this moment between Jim and Pam exceptionally special. Considering how much fans love the stolen moment, it seems that the extra effort was well worth it.
