Ree Drummond shares the moment she hit 'rock bottom' and realized she had to make some healthier changes in her life. Ree Drummond has lost almost 50 pounds this year and, while weight loss wasn’t her goal, she admits she feels motivated to continue with her healthy lifestyle. The Pioneer Woman star explained how she “hit rock bottom” one night and embarked on healthier eating and exercise the next day.

Ree Drummond shared the moment she ‘hit rock bottom’

During an interview with ET, Drummond was asked what inspired her to adopt healthier habits and she candidly explained the moment she “hit rock bottom.”

“I have a cooking show, I write cookbooks, I have a cooking website. I have a restaurant, a bakery,” she explained. “So you know, it just kept creeping up and in January of this year, we took my son, Bryce, to college. And I tell this story, but I basically hit rock bottom eating chips and salsa one night.”

Drummond continued, “I went a little overboard, but I thought that night, ‘I am going to start tomorrow, I am doing something different.’ And I just started and I almost lost 50 pounds now,” she revealed.

‘The Pioneer Woman’ star took a smart approach to healthy living

While she’s proud of her weight loss, Drummond kept her focus on feeling healthy and getting stronger. “I feel great and that’s what matters,” she explained. “The scale was sort of a gauge for me that I was heading in the right direction. And it was never about ‘I have to lose this amount,’ it’s really about how I feel.”

She continued, “I feel strong. Even when I was thinner, I don’t think I ever have been a squatter or a lunger before. Not since my ballet days. So it’s really nice to just kind of feel the muscles that I thought were gone forever.”

The Pioneer Woman star continues to eat the food she’s famous for but is a bit more mindful these days.”It changes your whole outlook just having the routine of exercise in your day and, you know, I still eat the foods that I cook my family,” Drummond shared. “I still eat cake. I just eat a Rhode Island-sized piece instead of a Texas-sized piece.”

Ree Drummond shared some of the secrets of her weight loss

On Sept. 8, Drummond posted a TikTok video that gave an update on her year of healthy living.

“It’s been a little while but I’ve been getting healthy this year and I thought I’d give you an update,” Drummond said in the video. “I’ve lost 48 pounds (since January) and here’s how I tackled it.”

She gave some insight into the practical approach she’s taken to eat healthier and move more. “I paid attention to calories and portion size, I ate more protein every day and I exercised and built muscle and overall I paid attention to just moving more,” Drummond explained.

She also said that she didn’t follow a paleo, keto, or fad diet, didn’t do intermittent fasting, nor did she eat any special foods. Drummond shared her exercise approach involves doing the rowing machine, going on long walks, and using hand weights, as well as doing lunges, squats, and straight leg deadlifts.
