Ree Drummond’s salted caramel frosted brownies are a decadent treat

Drummond demonstrated how to make her delicious brownie recipe on an episode of The Pioneer Woman. “Cowboys, like most humans, are notorious for having sweet tooths,” she said before making a batch of the “decadent dessert” for one of the guys on the ranch.

She melted unsweetened chocolate with butter in a bowl set over simmering water until the chocolate was “nice and smooth.” Then Drummond added sugar and stirred everything together.

The Food Network host stirred in eggs, first tempering them by stirring a spoonful of the warm chocolate into the bowl. “If I put the eggs straight into the warm bowl of chocolate they might scramble and curdle,” she explained.

Drummond stirred the eggs into the bowl, then added flour. After she mixed the ingredients together, The Pioneer Woman star poured the batter into a rectangular baking pan lined with wax paper and sprayed with nonstick baking spray. “That way, the brownies will come right out of the pan,” she said.

Drummond baked the brownies in a 325 degree Fahrenheit oven for 25 to 30 minutes.

Drummond got to work on the easy frosting next, noting, “It’s a pretty safe bet that most guys on the ranch are gonna love a batch of brownies.”

Rather than the standard variety, however, she said she was taking the brownies “one step further” and adding a salted caramel frosting.

Drummond beat softened butter in the mixer, then added powdered sugar and combined the ingredients on low speed. Next she drizzled in a bit of heavy cream.

The Pioneer Woman star used salted caramel sauce in the frosting, calling it “utterly addictive.” To make the sauce, she combined brown sugar, butter, cream, vanilla, and salt in a pan and cooked it over medium heat, whisking occasionally for 5 minutes.

She drizzled the sauce into the frosting in the mixer, combined the ingredients, then frosted the brownies. “I made the brownies pretty thin so the frosting layer is almost as thick as the brownie layer itself,” Drummond said.
