Ree Drummond makes an easy 5 ingredient teriyaki salmon that she calls a “go-to” recipe when she’s short on time. The Pioneer Woman star has a few shortcuts that make this a 15-minute recipe.

Ree Drummond makes an easy teriyaki salmon recipe

Drummond demonstrated how to make the recipe on an episode of The Pioneer Woman. “I am constantly amazed at what you can cook with just a handful of ingredients,” she said. “So for my next trick, I’m going to turn this fabulous five [ingredients] into an incredible, fast, and fuss-free lunch.”

She explained, “Speedy teriyaki salmon is one of my go-to recipes when I’m in the mood for salmon that has big, big flavor. It is so incredibly simple to make, you won’t even believe it.”

Drummond poured teriyaki sauce over salmon fillets in a baking dish. She turned the salmon over to make sure they were coated with the sauce “so they’ll have big flavor and caramelize a little bit in the pan.”

She heated a skillet, added a small amount of vegetable oil, and placed the salmon in the pan. Drummond cooked the first side for 5 minutes, then flipped the salmon and cooked the second side for 2 minutes. She removed it from the pan and allowed the salmon to rest.

The Pioneer Woman star added the teriyaki sauce to the skillet and cooked it over high heat until it thickened, stirring to loosen the brown bits from the bottom of the pan. “The flavor of this teriyaki sauce with all those salmon flavors combined is amazing,” Drummond explained.

She added the zest of a lime to the pan and allowed the sauce to bubble and thicken.

Drummond uses the easiest shortcut for rice

Next, Drummond used an easy shortcut for rice — a pouch that cooks quickly in the microwave. “I’m going to grab my trusty bag of microwave jasmine rice,” she explained. “I do not always use microwave rice when I cook but if I’m going for speed and I want to serve rice with my meal, this is the way to go.”

She microwaved the rice for 90 seconds. “I am not ashamed of shortcuts like this. When my kids became teenagers, life got crazy-busy so I forgive myself convenience items, for sure,” Drummond shared.

She returned the salmon to the sauce next. “Now the salmon looks fantastic as it is, but I’m going to put it into the sauce and let the sauce thicken with the salmon in there,” Drummond explained. She spooned the sauce over the tops of the salmon to coat it.

The Food Network host put the rice on a platter and placed the salmon on top. “Now I would not describe this as a typical lunch for a cattle rancher,” she explained. “I can think of a million people who would love to eat this with me, even if it’s not my beloved husband and sons.”

Drummond spooned the remaining sauce over the salmon and rice, then sprinkled cilantro leaves over the dish and placed lime wedges on the platter before serving. “I cannot believe I pulled this lunch together with so few ingredients,” she said. “Talk about speedy and talk about scrumptious.”
