Kylie Jenner is quite familiar with criticism. The Keeping up with the Kardashians star grew up in front of America. Her entire life has been projected weekly for people to dissect on her family’s reality show and thus also available to critique. Recently, fans have been attacking Kylie in regard to her cosmetic and skincare line, questioning if the star has paid for the good reviews on her products. Could the products really be as good as the reviews say, or are the reviews as suspicious as they look?

Kylie Jenner has hit a serious level of success

In 2019, Kylie Jenner proudly hit billionaire status as her cosmetic company rose in value and her personal net worth soared. Additional income from multiple product endorsements and tv appearances pushed the self-made business mogul over the top, according to Forbes. In fact, last year Kylie Jenner was declared the world’s youngest “self-made” billionaire at age 21, due in part to the success of Kylie Cosmetics.

Jenner sold half of her company this year, and for a number of reasons, Forbes no longer lists her as a billionaire (if she ever was one). But, being stripped of billionaire status doesn’t make her any less successful, Jenner likely pocketed over $340 million dollars from the sale of her company, and continues to promote her product line over all of her social media accounts. Her followers continue to grow and her skincare products still sell out within minutes of launching.

Jenner has recently shared some great reviews her cosmetic line has received

Jenner posted a series of screenshots showing positive, 5-star reviews of her newest line of products in May 2019. The reviews displayed happy clients who loved the products, but there were many people claiming that the reviews Jenner was sharing were fake.

Lots of people commented under Jenner’s Instagram posts making accusations that the reality star was posting fake reviews. According to reports at the time, Jenner quickly denied the claims that she was purchasing positive reviews and defended her position, instructing commenters to do their research before making crazy claims.

Fans still think reviews are falsified

It’s been just over a year since Kylie Jenner posted that series of social media reviews of her products on Instagram. Yet, message boards are still filled with speculations about the cost vs value of Kylie Cosmetics and wondering how many reviews are legit. Reddit users replied to a call to arms when one post asked for honest reviews of Kylie’s cosmetic line.

One Reddit user lamented the situation, “Yikes! The way I see it… If you can’t run a business with honest reviews out there, then how much of a business woman are you really?”

Other fans questioned the legitimacy of reviews too, based on the fact that there didn’t seem to be anyone who disliked the products. Another user pointed out this discrepancy, “When almost all the reviews are 5 stars, then that looks really fishy to me, as everyone’s skin is different.”

The 22-year-old beauty (almost) billionaire isn’t stunned by the accusations, instead, she’s been putting haters in their place. A quick scroll through her @kylieskin Instagram shows users who are both in love with the brand and happy with the products. Surely she’s not paying all of them.

She was quick to reply to those questioning her integrity too, claiming that critics were simply “haters” and that the reviews belonged to real people, according to Buzzfeed. When someone asked: “So you faking reviews for sells?” Jenner quickly let them know that all those reviews came from real people, and they could go look them up.

It’s certainly not the first time Jenner has faced some backlash from fans, and it won’t be the last, but at least it keeps people talking about her products.
