The Real Reason Niall Horan and Hailee Steinfeld Called It Quits

It’s always a sad time when a celebrity couple ends up calling it quits.

We’ve watched many A-listers establish beautiful relationships over the years and many of us are guilty of investing our time and energy into those romances, hoping they would stand the test of time.

One celebrity relationship many of us were once rooting for was Hailee Steinfeld and Niall Horan‘s. Though the pair kept their romance under-wraps, it was clear early on that there was an evident spark between them.

While the singers’ relationship was going strong in the beginning, that spark unfortunately sizzled out and they sadly called it quits all while shattering our hearts in the process.

Steinfeld and Horan only dated for a few months

Many of us are used to seeing celebrity relationships come and go, but one couple we really thought was going stay together longer than they did was Steinfeld and Horan.

The pair started off as friends and soon found themselves fueling romance rumors after being spotted together on multiple occasions.

The singers were first romantically linked back in January 2018 after onlookers caught them attended London’s West End production of Hamilton together.

While many people were certain that a romantic relationship was brewing between them, the Dickinson star seemingly responded to those rumors by letting fans know that she’s a “private person” and has “boundaries” when it comes to her personal life.

A few months later, Steinfeld and Horan took their relationship public by packing on the PDA whenever they were out on the town.

Though they didn’t officially confirm their romance, fans were confident that these two were totally endgame, especially since their public make outs were becoming a frequent thing.

To fans, it really looked like Horan and Steinfeld had finally found their perfect match in each other but as the saying goes, “all good things must come to an end.”

In December 2018, news outlets confirmed that the couple had unfortunately called it quits. At the time, Us Weekly reported that the pair’s split happened “a while ago” and revealed that their demanding schedules were what lead to their breakup.

“They split months ago,” a source told the outlet. “Niall wrapped up his tour and had more free time, but Hailee’s work schedule really ramped up, so they didn’t have time for a relationship. They still have a lot of love for each other.”

Fans think Steinfeld just accused Horan of cheating

While we initially thought that Steinfeld and Horan ended things on pretty good terms, the actress’ new song now has us thinking otherwise.

On January 1, Steinfeld released her brand new track, “Wrong Direction,” which seemingly calls out an ex for cheating on her.

Though she doesn’t name anyone in particular, the actress does imply that someone broke her heart in the past and fans are certain that it’s none other than Horan.

“I don’t hate you, no, I couldn’t if I wanted to. I just hate all the hurt that you put me through. And that I blame myself for letting you, did you know I already knew?” she sings. “Couldn’t even see you through the smoke, looking back I probably should have known, but I just wanted to believe you were out sleeping alone.” 

Fans have also been pointed out that the title alone was a not-so-subtly jab at the “Slow Hands” crooner seeing as though it references the band that jumpstarted his career—One Direction.

Seeing as though there is a good chance this song isn’t about Horan, fans are refusing to believe that it’s about someone else.

This song could definitely be the actress’ way of throwing shade at Horan but until she revealed who exactly this track is about, we’ll just be left guessing.
