The Real has been through a lot of cast changes. When it first premiered in 2013, co-hosts Adrienne Bailon, Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai, and Tamera Mowry-Housley invited viewers into what seemed like daily personal conversations between friends. Since then, a lot has changed. Braxton is no longer on the show. Amanda Seales has come and gone as a co-host and now the show is in for one of its biggest changes ever. Mowry-Housley has just announced that she is leaving the show.

Tamera announces her exit

Mowry-Housley took to Instagram to announce her exit from the show.

“For seven years, my home and heart has been at The Real,” she said in a note on Instagram. “The friendships that I’ve made there will last a lifetime, and the people that I’ve had the blessing to interview have changed my life for the better. I’m so proud of what all the ladies and I have accomplished there, including two well-deserved NAACP Image Awards and a Daytime Emmy.

“However, all good things must come to an end and it’s with a bittersweet smile that I announce that I am moving on from The Real,” she continued. “To my fellow hosts, I love you, I will miss you, and I will always be there for you. Thank you for teaching me, supporting me, and loving all of me. Sisters forever. I’ll be rooting for you, as I look forward to spending more time with my family, pursuing amazing new opportunities, and embarking on the next chapter of my life.”

Why did Tamera exit the show?

Mowry-Housley has been on the show since the very beginning which means it has been a large part of her life for the past seven years. Now, the actress is ready to focus on something else, her family.

“We fully support Tamera’s decision to spend more time with her family, even if that means she’s not one of our hosts on The Real,” The Real producers TelePictures said in a statement, according to TVLine. “She will always be part of The Real family. We look forward to developing future projects with her and welcoming her back as a regular guest on the show.”

Other exits from ‘The Real’

Braxton exited The Real quite suddenly in 2016 and many wondered if there was drama that led to the departure.

“Tamar Braxton’s contract was not renewed for reasons that will remain privileged and private, and that are between her and the studio,” the show’s producers wrote in a statement at the time. “However, we would like to make it crystal clear that Ms. Braxton’s departure from the show had nothing to do with her former co-hosts; any suggestion to the contrary unfairly tarnishes them. As always, we wish Tamar and Vince all the best.”

Seales was only on the show for one season before she decided to leave.

“My contract is up … and I didn’t renew it because it doesn’t feel good to my soul to be at a place where I cannot speak to my people the way they need to be spoken to,” she said during an Instagram Live. “And where the people who are speaking to me in disparaging ways are not being handled.”

The Real was renewed for its seventh and eighth seasons in November 2019 so it will continue through the 2021–2022 television season even with these major cast shakeups.
