Season 4 left off with Conrad and Nic getting married and welcoming their first child together. Notably, some fans are wondering why Emily VanCamp has left the show after four seasons. Nic was a character many fans grew to love and was a massive part of the show. Therefore, it was surprising to the fans and rightfully so that she chose not to renew her contract for another season.

Why Emily VanCamp left

It is not uncommon for fans to be curious about why their favorite movie or TV stars are quitting. These days, it seems like everyone has a project going on at the same time. In Emily’s case, she just had a baby with her husband in August 2021, as announced on Instagram.

It is believed that her daughter was the main reason why she left The Resident. Motherhood is demanding as it requires full-time attention. So, she did not want to be away from her daughter for long periods while on set.

Additionally, she might have felt that the show had already taken her on an incredible journey. Therefore, it was time to move on to something else. Despite her sudden exit, fans know that VanCamp valued her cast members, who had grown to be family throughout the seasons.

It might have been hard for fans to see someone leave who has become so close to them over the last four seasons. However, they can rest assured that Emily is not done with TV. She has a new show coming out next year, which will be her first return to television since The Resident.

Naturally, the viewers are unsure how The Resident will write off Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp) after season four. After all, her character is one of the few who has been on since day one, and fans don’t want to see another person go, especially when Shaunette Renee Wilson already left.

According to US Weekly, the season 5 trailer reveals that Conrad gets up from bed and opens his door, only to find two police officers at the door. This sudden appearance portends that Nic may have been involved in an accident. According to TV Line, the showrunners have taken a different approach by not revealing Nic’s status in the first episode.

The first two episodes have not revealed if Nic died. The first episode focuses on a cyber-attack, while the second one reflects on Devon’s medical condition. Initially, viewers had theories about how they would kill her off. According to CinemaBlend, some fans thought that Nic giving birth to Georgiana Grace would present an opportunity to kill off her character, but this hunch didn’t prove fruitful. The Resident will keep fans guessing about what happens next as it leaps off from where they left stopped in season four.
