What is the mid-season return date for ‘The Resident’ Season 5?

The Resident Season 5 aired its mid-season finale, episode 10 (called “Unknown Origin”), on Dec. 7. According to Newsweek, the series will take more than a month of time off. The Resident Season 5 Episode 11 is set for a return date of Feb. 1, 2022.

As for the rest of the season, FOX hasn’t yet revealed how many episodes fans can expect. Season 4 contained 14 episodes in total, but the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may have forced a shorter season. Previous installments have included as many as 23 episodes. If that’s the case with season 5, it will likely end around mid-March.

Where to watch season 5 episodes before the mid-season return

The long gap might be disappointing to many fans, but it does provide plenty of time to binge-watch the first half of the season. All episodes of The Resident, including season 5, are available to watch with a Hulu subscription. Additionally, fans can find the recent episodes for free on FOX Now. Other available subscription services include Amazon Prime, Vudu, YouTube TV, and Sling TV.

‘The Resident’ Season 5: Everything We Know About Cade, Chastain’s New ER Doctor

The Resident Season 5’s three-year time jump has totally shaken up the story. In the latest episodes, fans saw Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) explore dating after the death of his wife, Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp). He may have found his match in Kincaid (Kaley Ronayne), a witty and no-nonsense new doctor at Chastain. However, Kincaid comes with a mysterious past.

Executive producer Andrew Chapman told TV Insider that the rest of season 5 will look deeper into Kincaid’s secrets.

“She does have secrets. She does have a past, and that past is complicated and will play into how we’re going to wrap up the season and what we dive into in the world of medicine and in the world of relationships going right up until the season finale,” Chapman explained. “The best thing that I can say about it is it’s very current and explosive and will be really interesting. I think people are gonna love it.”

In addition to Kincaid’s drama, the mid-season return will also focus on Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) and his medical diagnosis after he experienced hand tremors and vertigo.

“It’s going to be important for his character and for his soap with Kit [played by Jane Leeves] and his relationship to Conrad, who obviously will know about it but has been sworn to secrecy,” the producer added. “And it will mark sort of a new path for Bell.”
