The Secret to How Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Make Their Marriage Work
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds share adorable chemistry, and the two are hilarious in their social media interactions with one another that keeps fans giggling. How is this famous husband and wife Hollywood duo able to keep their relationship going so strong? It turns out that they have thought it through carefully to ensure that their family comes first.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have a growing family
Reynolds and Lively met while shooting Green Lantern in 2011, but they didn’t begin dating right away. Both were in relationships when they first met, and the sparks didn’t truly start flying until they were on a double date … with other people. Reynolds explained that the chemistry was undeniable, “She was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl. That was the most awkward date for that respective party because we were just like fireworks.”
They were married in 2012, and while they do share tidbits of their life through social media, they are very private and make sure to keep their family life out of the public eye as much as possible. This rule especially applies to their children. They have two daughters named James and Inez. They also recently delighted fans when they appeared together at the premiere of Reynolds’ latest movie, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. Lively appeared decked out in Pikachu-like yellow and sporting an obvious baby bump.
They work hard to make their marriage work
While the seemingly effortless connection between the pair may be endearing to fans, the couple has made it clear that their relationship takes intentional work and planning. In particular, they make sure to prioritize their family above their work.
This must be a tricky balance for two stars who are both in such high demand. While Reynolds may arguably be a little more famous than Lively with his blockbuster success in the superhero genre, Lively has made quite a name for herself in the romance and drama categories.
The two both also share a history of acting at a young age and have been in the spotlight since they were teens. They were even both nominees at the Teen Choice Awards on the very same evening in 2005! Lively got nominated for her work on The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Reynolds won a scary movie award for his bathtub scene in The Amityville Horror.
Despite a long history of acting and successful careers, the two have worked together to ensure that they aren’t apart for long periods of time to film. This means that they don’t work on films at the same time and surely have to turn down roles to make this arrangement work.
Reynolds explained, “Blake and I don’t do movies at the same time. If she is doing a movie in Thailand and I am doing a movie in Vancouver we would just never see each other. We operate as a unit, and that works really well for us.” The whole family travels together to make their lives work. “The kids stay with us, and the family stays together, and that is where home is. So if we are in Spain or Utah or New York, as long as we are together, we’re home,” Reynolds added.
Reynolds may have learned a lesson from his previous marriage
Reynolds was married to another famous actress in the past. He and fellow superhero star Scarlett Johansson got married in 2008. While the pair was intensely private about their relationship and did not share many details at the time, they have each opened up a little about what caused their ultimate split.
At one point, Johansson admitted that their hectic work schedules prevented them from seeing each other very often, making it very difficult to invest in the marriage.
It seems like Reynolds may have taken a serious lesson from that experience because he and Lively have ensured that they work in a way that allows them to stay together as much as possible.
