The Stars of Netflix’s ‘Unorthodox’ Had the Cutest Reaction to The Show’s Emmy Nomination

The Netflix mini-series Unorthodox which came out on Netflix in March 2020, is about a woman named Esty who escapes her strict Orthodox Jewish family. Shira Haas, an Israeli actor, plays Unorthodox‘s protagonist, and for her performance, Haas was nominated for an Emmy award. The series itself was got a nomination for Outstanding Limited Series — and Haas and her co-star, Amit Rahav’s reactions were too cute to handle.

Vulture recently interviewed Haas about her Emmy nomination. This isn’t the first time the actor has been honored at an awards show, but she is beginning to gain more traction in the U.S. market.

“Haas, who won Best International Actress at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival for her work in Asia, has been slowly gaining acclaim for her work over the past few years,” the publication wrote.

How did it feel to get an award from the prestigious television awards ceremony, the Emmys?

“I was really surprised!” the Unorthodox star told Vulture. “I always believed in the show, and I knew there was this possibility. I tried to be optimistic, but you can never tell.” She continued:

We started filming this TV series a year ago, I was so concentrated on what I was doing, and I believed in the show so much, but I never thought about words like ‘Emmy.’ Being alongside these great actors and actresses … to be announced one second after Cate Blanchett, it’s really amazing.

The Unorthodox star went on to emphasize just how surprised she was at the Emmy nod.

“… if there was a video of me,” Haas said about watching the nominations live. “You could see me completely shocked, to be honest. It’s amazing.”

Luckily, there is a video of Haas and Rahav reacting to Unorthodox’s Limited Series nomination.

Recently, Netflix tweeted a video of the Unorthodox stars reacting to the show’s Emmy nomination, captioning it: “Shira Haas and Amit Rahav adorably freak out.” The two actors are seen screaming “yes!” and jumping for joy, and hugging it out in the clip.

While Haas herself doesn’t have much in common with Esty, she did find playing her to be a valuable experience — for that very reason.

“I don’t want to see only myself on the screen. I want to see something different so I can understand it,” the Unorthodox lead explained. She went on:

That’s something about this show, and that’s why I was surprised because I felt like we really did it. It was really what we aimed for, to connect with people. We all want and need and have this struggle to find ourselves.
