The anthropomorphic short-beaked echidna first made his debut in the 1994 video game, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Knuckles is originally a villain who Doctor Eggman tricks to go against Sonic and Tails. Later on, Knuckles realizes Doctor Eggman’s deception and becomes an ally to Sonic. The echidna is notoriously known for his stoic and serious demeanor and his powerful punches due to his spiked fists.

In the games, Knuckles is the guardian of the Master Emerald, a giant gemstone that controls a series of Chaos Emeralds. This storyline will translate to the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel as Dr. Robotnik looks for the very Chaos Emerald that Knuckles guards in his game version storyline.
