The coronavirus (COVID-19) has impacted much of the entertainment world. Countless movies and television shows have had to halt production — but not The Umbrella Academy

The live-action adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s graphic novels instantly became a hit on Netflix. Now, fans are eager to know when the second season will drop.

Creator Steve Blackman recently shared a photo on Instagram that got fans hopeful that a new season of The Umbrella Academy could drop sooner than anticipated.

‘Umbrella Academy’ fans are dying to know ‘when’ the Hargreeves are

The Umbrella Academy is a 10-episode Netflix series based on the graphic novels of the same name. Way created and wrote the series, working with Bá for the illustrations.

The Netflix series follows the Hargreeves children, a dysfunctional family of superheroes that includes Luther “Spaceboy” (Tom Hopper), Diego “The Kraken” (David Castañeda), Allison “The Rumor” (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus “The Séance” (Robert Sheehan), and “Number Five” (Aidan Gallagher).

There’s also Ben “The Horror” (Justin H. Min), who is killed as a child. Then there is Vanya (Ellen Page), who goes by “Number Seven” until she discovers her powers as “The White Violin.”

In the first season of The Umbrella Academy, the estranged family must come together to solve the mysterious death of their father. They eventually learn of the impending apocalypse — and, more importantly, who is to blame for it.

The conclusion of season 1 left fans with a cliffhanger when Number Five took them all back in time to prevent the apocalypse from occurring. But where did the Hargreeves children go? Fans are eager for the release of the second season to get answers to that question, among others.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 2 is in post-production

Unlike many other series that have been forced to pause filming or production activity due to the coronavirus, The Umbrella Academy is seemingly moving forward.

Series creator and executive producer Blackman recently posted an image to Instagram of his team working hard on post-production for The Umbrella Academy Season 2. Blackman aptly captioned the photo: “Even corona can’t stop an Umbrella Academy Mix! But I swear we’re washing our hands…”

With people being asked to participate in social distancing to help combat the spread of the coronavirus, Blackman reassured fans that the cast and crew are taking every precaution to keep everyone safe and healthy.

A firm release date for season 2 of The Umbrella Academy has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, but fans are hopeful that the release might be sooner rather than later.

The impact the coronavirus has had on entertainment

The Umbrella Academy is one of the lucky shows, as the spread of the coronavirus has greatly impacted the entertainment world. Many shows have suspended or postponed filming until it’s safe to be out and about again. For instance, The Walking Dead had to delay post-production work due to the virus. The production team stated that the season finale would not air on its originally scheduled date.

Streamable content is keeping many people entertained during this time of quarantine. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some new Umbrella Academy content to stream once you’re done binge-watching Tiger King for a third time?
