Sunny Hostin figured out a work/life balance

Married to New York orthopedic surgeon Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Hostin since 1998, Hostin and her husband welcomed son Gabriel in 2002, and daughter Paloma in 2006.

Deciding to devote herself to full-time motherhood after Gabriel was born, Hostin soon discovered she would be better off with some time outside the home.

“I drove everyone around me crazy,” she shared in an article for Marie Claire. “So I started dabbling with a few flexible law jobs.”

Now with her gig on The View, the ABC co-host seems to have the best of both worlds.

The View ends at noon, so I go to every track meet and every game,” she told USA Today in 2019. “I look at my calendar and if my kids have an activity, I often just don’t make it to other things.”

‘The View’ star gets real on her path to parenthood

In a recent interview, Hostin gushed over her role as a mom. The View panelist clearly places her children as a top priority.

“Being a mother has been the joy of my life,” Hostin told The Grio in a video interview. “I wouldn’t trade anything for it. There isn’t a day that passes that I, that they don’t bring a smile to my face.”

Describing the lengths she went to and challenges she endured to have her children, Hostin noted that there are many ways to grow a family.

“I will say that families come in all different shapes and sizes, right?” she remarked. “And so our journey included bed rest, a torn placenta, five miscarriages, IVF, my son almost not making it. My sister-in-law’s journey … she adopted my beautiful nephew from Haiti right before the earthquake. I have other friends who, you know, have had their children without problems.”

Sunny Hostin encourages aspiring moms

As someone who experienced several difficulties before becoming a mom, Hostin offered some advice and encouragement to those hoping to have children.

“Whatever your path is to becoming a mother, it’s your path,” the ABC legal analyst explained. “And it’s so worth it. I think you just stay the course, and know that at the end of the day, that it really is the most beautiful thing that you can experience, in my view.”

Hostin also noted the legacy that children can continue, which brings a profound aspect to growing your family.
