‘The View’: Sunny Hostin Revealed How Long She Plans to Stay on the Show as She Approaches 5-Year Anniversary

The View co-host is gearing up to celebrate her five-year anniversary on the talk show, and recently share some thoughts on her shift from federal prosecutor to television personality
Sunny Hostin is following Whoopi Goldberg’s lead
After stints on Fox News and CNN, Hostin landed a permanent co-hosting gig on The View in September 2016. Becoming a voice for diversity and making a name for herself with multiple projects, Hostin feels content with the recognition she’s earned.
“I think people know who I am now,” The View star told People. “And they know my place in the show’s history. I don’t know that I need [the acknowledgment] anymore — I did at one point, but I think I found my way. I think people know my place in the show’s history. And I’m proud of that.”
Sharing the “Hot Topics” table each morning with Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Meghan McCain, and Sara Haines, Hostin has the same perspective that Goldberg recently shared as far as her projected longevity on the show.
“I’m feeling the same way [as Whoopi],” Hostin remarked. “I’m feeling like I’ll be there for as long as they’ll have me. It’s really an honor to sit at the table that Barbara Walters built. So stay tuned, more to come.”
‘The View’ is ‘like a sorority’
Hostin noted how The View has made an impact on television since its launch in 1997, and how the relationships between co-hosts can be somewhat unique.
“It’s an iconic show, and I know that I’ve made lifelong friends on the show,” she commented. “It’s a platform like no other. I often say it’s like a sorority. I don’t think you understand what it’s like unless you’ve actually been on the show.”
With each panelist sharing their own take on some controversial issues on live television each day, Hostin appreciates the range of perspectives on The View team.
“We have a diversity of opinion, and we certainly represent different age groups,” the attorney said. “We can always do better, but we do pretty well.”

The View co-hosts often make headlines over on-air squabbles which sometimes lead to all-out argument. Still, Hostin insists that they discuss material that is often avoided in front of the camera, so conversations are bound to get heated.
“We like each other and we respect each other,” she explained. “We talk about things that most people are not supposed to talk about even in private spaces. I think that a lot of people can learn from how we do it, because we speak about it with respect.”
While Hostin admitted that things can escalate quickly between co-hosts, she credited the whole staff of The View for maintaining a foundation of respect.
“We don’t always get it right, but we at least have the respect and friendship so that we can come together and do it the very next day,” The View panelist said. “I think that is certainly a credit to my co-hosts, our staff, our producers and just to our entire team.”
