Whoopi Goldberg of The View is very open with her opinions on committed relationships. Opting to remain single after three marriages ended in divorce, the EGOT winner is perfectly content being on her own.

While she may not intend to head to the altar again, the daytime talk show moderator admitted she has previously made some out-of-character choices in the name of love and romance.

Whoopi Goldberg talks about romance

Speaking to the panel of Loose Women in 2018, Goldberg revealed she still believes in both love and lust at first sight.

“There are some people where you see and you think ‘I’ve got to have that,'” The View moderator shared. “‘I don’t care what else happens in this month, that is coming to my house.’ Then there’s love … then there’s like, ‘Oh, my goodness. Hi. Can I talk to you?’”

Goldberg confessed she’s experienced both situations, but declined to give any details.

“I’ve had both and it oftentimes leads to the same thing, which is for me, I do not want to share,” Goldberg stated. “I don’t want to share, and that’s ok to say.”

‘The View’ star headed to the altar 3 times

Goldberg is adamant on not wanting to remarry after having walked down the aisle three times. Apparently, the daytime co-host looks at getting hitched as outside of what she now considers the norm.

When asked by Marie Claire what the craziest thing is that she ever did for love, Goldberg quickly replied, “Got married.”

According to Closer Weekly, Goldberg married Alvin Martin when she was just 18 years old and struggling with a heroin addiction. Tying the knot in 1973, they divorced in 1979 and share a daughter, Alex.

In 1986, the Academy Award winner gave wedded bliss another shot when she wed cinematographer David Claessen. Their marriage lasted only two years, and they had no children.

Goldberg’s shortest marriage came in 1994 when she headed to the altar with ITSE union organizer Lyle Trachtenberg. The two went their separate ways the following year.

Whoopi Goldberg appreciates being single

When Goldberg spoke to the New York Times in 2019, she reflected on the pressures women are often subjected to when it comes to relationships.

“Look, people expect you to have a boyfriend,” Goldberg shared. “They expect you to get married. So I kept trying to do that, but I didn’t want to share information with somebody else. I didn’t want anybody asking me why I was doing what I was doing, or to have to make the other person feel better. But if you’re in a relationship, you have to do those things, and it took me a while to figure out that I didn’t want to.”

Revealing that she wasn’t finding happiness in her marriages, the Sister Act star discovered she didn’t have to be bound to anyone in holy matrimony in order to be complete.

“I’d be thinking, why don’t I feel the thing that I’m supposed to?” Goldberg remarked. “Then one day I thought: I don’t have to do this. I don’t have to conform. I tried marriage, and it wasn’t for me. You can’t be in a marriage because everybody’s expecting you to.”
