Blake Shelton had his coaching skills tested by many celebrities. He named the coach he thinks was the easiest to defeat on The Voice and talked about Ariana Grande joining the show.

Blake Shelton’s team has won ‘The Voice’ the most

The country singer has stood out as a coach given he’s usually the only one tied to the genre. He has still managed to win the most with seven seasons. What has led to his success?

“America, they can see it when you have an actual real bond with somebody on your team. People connect to that,” Shelton explained on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

“There is something about the country audience out there. They’re very active. You know from [American] Idol, some of yall’s winners,” he said. “The country audience is so loyal, and they connect. They follow through, man. They get on the phone. They vote.”

The one coach that has made Shelton’s job harder is Kelly Clarkson. She has won multiple times with her own country contestants.

Shelton has been on The Voice since it premiered in 2011. Since then, he has gone up against 15 other coaches. Next season he’ll have new competition with Ariana Grande. Shelton said he’s happy about this given he’s had “easy” competition.

“I’m excited about Ariana joining the show because it’s somebody new for me to beat,” he said during a Q&A, according to People. “I’m tired of beating John [Legend] every season — and Nick [Jonas],” he added.

“The easiest defeat of my career was Nick,” Shelton then said. “So I’m looking for a challenge. I think Ariana could be a challenge. I’m looking forward to beating her, though.”

Jonas was a coach on seasons 18 and 20. Season 20 is still going strong, so he still has a chance to beat Shelton.

Grande tweeted the big news on March 30 with, “surprise !!! i [sic] am beyond thrilled, honored, excited to be joining @kellyclarkson @johnlegend @blakeshelton next season ~ season 21 of @nbcthevoice ! @nickjonas we will miss you.” Jonas responded with, “Congrats @ArianaGrande! You’re going to kill it next season! Welcome to the family.”

Shelton also gave his initial reaction to Hoda Kotb. “There’s one chair on The Voice that seems like, lately, it’s kind of turned into like this revolving door of different coaches that we’re able to bring in,” he said. “And they never let us know who it’s going to be, by the way.”

He said he was excited. It looks like Shelton is ready for some new competition and doesn’t think Jonas will win season 20.
