Since even before the show premiered, the Game of Thrones comparisons have been everywhere with The Witcher. Though the Netflix show has its own world with its own characters and their journeys, it’s hard sometimes not to compare the two fantasy shows. They certainly have their similarities, but this one connection between the two shows is surprising.

Many fans of both fantasy worlds might not know that this one person worked on both shows. Fortunately, we’re here to tell you all about it. Explore the connection between both shows and fan reactions to it.

According to ComicBook.com, one big connection between The Witcher and Game of Thrones is Vladimir Furdik. Furdik posted a picture on Twitter of himself with Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer in the show, revealing to fans that he worked on The Witcher. Game of Thrones fans, however, might recognize him better in his role as the Night King in season six through eight of the HBO series.

His role in The Witcher, however, is more behind the scenes. He was also, according to Marc Deschamps of ComicBook.com, behind the scenes for Game of Thrones seasons 1 to 5. Furdik worked as a stunt coordinator for the first 5 seasons of the popular HBO show. For The Witcher, Furdik worked as a fight choreographer for all of the fights in the show except one: the fight between Geralt and Renfri and her men in Blaviken.

The Blaviken fight was choreographed, Deschamps reports, by Wolfgang Stegemann.

What are fan reactions to Vladimir Furdik’s involvement in ‘The Witcher’?

Fans of Game of Thrones are likely happy to see Furdik again, working on The Witcher. One fan on Twitter says they “love that [he’s] part of another great series.” Another fan replies to the picture of Furdik with Chalotra by saying “love her to death already. Love you too!”

A Twitter user replies to the same image with “the power this picture has.” While yet another fan mentions that they “love the fight scenes, perfect [choreography].” This fan goes on to say that they “hope [Furdik] will be back for [season 2] filming.” Unfortunately, according to Redanian Intelligence, when asked on Instagram if he will be returning for season 2, Furdik simply said “no.”

What other connection is there between ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Game of Thrones’?

Yes, there is another connection between The Witcher and Game of Thrones, besides the obvious ones and Furdik. There is an actor who has starred on both shows. This actor had a very small part in Game of Thrones but plays a larger role in The Witcher.

This actor is Jodhi May. May played Maggy the Frog in Game of Thrones and Queen Calanthe of Cintra in The Witcher. Maggy is the character who gave Cersei an ominous prophecy in Game of Thrones. While Calanthe is Ciri’s fierce and protective grandmother in The Witcher.

Fans of both fantasy worlds can find May in the first episode of season 5 of Game of Thrones, and of course, throughout season 1 of The Witcher. These connections also might inspire those Game of Thrones fans who haven’t watched The Witcher yet to check the show out. It will also probably make some people happy that Game of Thrones and The Witcher are so connected, as both shows are loved by their fan bases.

At least, Game of Thrones was loved until the controversial eighth season.
