Brytni Sarpy as Elena Dawson and a relationship for her and the character

Sarpy’s first appearance on the show was in March 2019 when she joined as a main cast member. The actress debuted as the new character of Elena Dawson. She previously portrayed legacy character, Valerie Spencer, on General Hospital. On The Young and the Restless, Sarpy’s Elena was paired with longtime cast member, Bryton James, who plays Devon Hamilton. In mere months, the two were written into an on-screen relationship on the soap. The actors themselves began dating in real life as well.

They started dating in May 2019. This information was revealed after they posted on social media about celebrating a one-year anniversary in May 2020. In an interview with Soaps in Depth, Sarpy revealed that she and James developed a rapport soon after she did a screen test with him. “He was so chill and laid-back. There’s great chemistry between us,” she said.

“Bryton is one of the best men that I’ve met in my life, next to my dad!” she added.

Sarpy talks about the character and loving the support from Elena-Devon fans

Sarpy rcently sat down for an interview with James Lott Jr. with
JLJ Media and talked about her experience on the soap, the character of Elena, and support/reactions from fans.

On Elena, Sarpy said (as reported by Daytime Confidential), “I think Elena is a really passionate person. I think she has a mama bear quality abut her. I think she really cares for the people in her life. You see that in her relationship with Devon and how she takes on all of his battles and she takes them as her own and she’s very defensive and protective,” she said.

Not only is Elena protective of Devon, but she’s also protective of Nate. Sarpy attributes a lot of this to her being a doctor. She explained, “You even see it with Nate and how she steps in with his relationship with Abby and then his relationship with Amanda and how she’s just so overly concerned. They’re qualities you certainly see in a doctor.”

She also compared the fan reception on The Young and the Restless to how viewers reacted to her on General Hospital. On General Hospital, her character of Valerie was an interloper to a popular couple. “It’s such a different feeling than being on GH, where Valerie was not liked when she stepped on Dante and Lulu’s toes,” she said. However, on The Young and the Restless, things are different and she enjoys the messages from Elena-Devon fans.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
