‘The Young and the Restless’: Could Adam Get Back With Sharon and Leave Chelsea?
One of The Young and the Restless‘ hottest triangles in recent memory could be heating back up. Adam Newman is spending a lot more time with his ex-wife, Sharon Newman. Does this mean that Chelsea Newman should be worried? In a recent interview, actress Melissa Claire Egan gave her take on the matter.
Adam Newman has been in two major relationships on the show
Adam is an integral part of the show and an important legacy character. As the son of Victor and his ex-wife, Hope Newman, was born in 1995, it was nearly 15 years before Adam returned to the show. The first adult actor to play Adam was Chris Engen, who debuted in the role in 2008. Engen played the role for about a year before being recast with Michael Muhney. He was in the role from 2009 to 2014. Then, the character was then recast with future This Is Us star, Justin Harley, who was in the role from 2014 to 2016. Mark Grossman portrays the character now and has been in the role since 2019.
The character has been in multiple romantic relationships, but his most notable are his pairings with Sharon Collins Newman (Shadam) and Chelsea Lawson Newman (Chadam). Coincidentally, both women have also been in notable relationships with his brother, Nicholas Newman, as well as Nick’s half-brother, Dylan McAvoy. Sharon and Adam have been married one time, from 2009 to 2010. Adam and Chelsea have been married twice; first from 2012 to 2013 and then again from 2014 to 2016.
Other romances for Adam include a pairing with Heather Stevens (the character’s only real romance when Engen was in the role) and another one with Skye Lockhart.
Here’s what Melissa Claire Egan thinks of Shadam and Chadam’s future
In a recent interview with Soaps in Depth, Melissa Claire Egan, who plays Chelsea, spoke about her thoughts on if Adam may soon leave Chelsea for Sharon. Adam has turned to Sharon a lot recently has he reconciles with abuse that he faced during his childhood.
Before, this things seemed fine between Adam and Chelsea. “They were kind of in a great place,” said Egan. “And then this secret was revealed. He’s not in a great place emotionally or mentally, and she’s just trying to be a supportive wife.”
Still, this is a rarity, considering a during a good amount of the couple’s history, they’ve been on the rocks. They are not [always in good place]!” Egan joked. “They go back and forth. They have a roller coaster romance. They were in a great place, but this definitely throws him for a loop. According to the actress, Chelsea is threatened by Sharon’s presence in Adam’s life right now. “He goes to see Sharon for therapy and Chelsea’s like, ‘Uh uh. Anybody else. Not your ex-wife,’” Egan said. “She’s very threatened by that.”
But because there is so much history between these characters, it is not surprising to think that things will be mixed up every once in a whole. “That kind of indicates the whole Chadam/Shadam triangle that has been going on for nine years almost,” Egan said. “As long as I’ve been on the show. So it’s kind of great what you can really sink your teeth into on a soap if it gets that far.”
