Melody Thomas Scott is an iconic soap actress

Scott, who was born Melody Ann Thomas, appeared in a lot of projects before she began her storied career in soaps. She was a child actress, she had roles in movies such as 1964’s Marine, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. She also appeared in some western projects, like John Wayne’s final film, The Shootlist. Additionally, she had a recurring role on the television series, The Waltons.

As for soaps, she has portrayed the character of Nicole “Nikk” Reed Newman on CBS’s The Young and the Restless since 1979. Scott was the second actress to portray Nikki, following Erica Hope, who was in the role for a short period of time from 1978-1979.

The character is most known for being one-half of a popular pairing with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Nikki is one of the biggest character in the soap opera’s history, going from a prostitute to one of Genoa City’s most prominent businesswomen.

The Young and the Restless is not currently airing new episodes as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The soap opera, along with its sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, ran out of episodes once production was halted.

In light of the pandemic, the show is airing themed weeks of reruns. The first themed week consisted of episodes that prominently featured the legendary character of Katherine Chancellor (portrayed by the late Jeanne Cooper). The second week of reruns has consisted of episodes that principally feature Victor and Nikki’s romance.

Scott joined in on interacting with fans on Twitter during the classic episode that aired on Tuesday. She answered a ton of questions of fans, who asked her questions about her favorite scene partner to some of her most enjoyable The Young and the Restless moments.

One fan asked, “What would you like to see Nikki do that she hasn’t done yet?” Scott responded, “Have an evil twin!” While the character of Nikki has been through a lot on the show, she has not been put through a storyline like that.

The Young and the Restless isn’t big on “twin” storylines, but there have been several doppelgänger storylines over the years. The character of Amanda Sinclair showed up in town beginning last year, having the same face as a former character, Hilary Curtis, who died. Both characters are portrayed by Mishael Morgan.

Back in the mid-2000s, Michelle Stafford played double duty in the role of her longtime character, Phyliss Summers, as well as the role of the villainous Shelia Carter. Stafford played Carter when the storyline dictated that Carter got plastic surgery to look like Phyliss. The character’s original portrayed, Kimberlin Brown, would later return to the role in a short stint from 2017-2018.
