The Young and the Restless star Mishael Morgan was nominated for the first time in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series: Actress category for the 2022 Daytime Emmys. As it turns out, the first time was the charm.

Morgan, who plays Amanda Sinclair in the series, won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series: Actress at the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Morgan, who starred on The Young and the Restless as Hilary Curtis, was nominated for the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2019, but she lost in the category to Vernee Watson of General Hospital.

This year marks Morgan’s third Daytime Emmy nomination. She was also nominated in 2018 for her role on The Young and the Restless as Hilary Curtis.

Morgan also made history with her win in the category. According to a report from Entertainment Tonight, Morgan is the first Black woman to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series: Actress.

“I’m so proud of this generation. I am being honored regardless of the cover of my skin, for being the best at what I do,” Morgan said, according to the report.

Arianne Zucker, who stars as Nicole Walker on Days of Our Lives, Laura Wright, who stars as Carly Corinthos on General Hospital, Cynthia Watros, who stars as Nina Reeves on General Hospital, and Marci Miller, who stars as Abigail DiMera on Days of Our Lives were also nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance. Wright and Watros won Emmys in the category.

Despite winning in the Outstanding Lead Actress category, The Young and the Restless did not win the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. For the 15th time, General Hospital won the award.

The 2022 Daytime Emmys aired at 9 p.m./8 p.m. Central on June 24 on CBS and Paramount+.
