The Young and the Restless says goodbye to beloved hero Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso). The Genoa City detective was killed in a car crash while driving to Crimson Lights. While Rey’s death is considered an accident, there may be more to the story.

Rey Rosales was in a car accident with Victoria Newman on ‘The Young and the Restless’

The Young and the Restless fans knew Rey’s exit would be tragic. As predicted, he was involved in a car crash with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle). Victoria swerved to avoid hitting Rey’s car and crashed into a tree.

As luck would have it, Victoria’s husband, Ashland Locke (Robert Newman), was following her. Ashland also wrecked his car but managed to rescue an unconscious Victoria. He took her to a nearby deserted cabin, where he relayed the events of what happened.

Ashland told her Rey was the other driver, but he died when his car hit Ashland’s vehicle. While everyone is quick to believe Ashland’s story, fans aren’t buying it.

Fans believe Rey Rosales was murdered

Rey’s death occurred offscreen on The Young and the Restless. Neither the car nor his body was shown, and Ashland’s story is the only evidence of his death. Yet, since Ashland is a con man, fans are skeptical of his tale about the accident.

On a Twitter thread, fans voiced their skepticism over Ashland’s story. “The more I see this episode, the more I see another con by Ashland,” wrote one viewer. “Something is definitely not right here. I do not believe Ashland. Victoria did not kill Rey,” another commenter chimed in.

Speculation is starting about Ashland’s involvement in Rey’s demise. Many believe that Ashland was the one who caused Victoria’s accident, and Rey came upon it. Before Rey could call for help, Ashland killed him to protect his secret.

Adding to this theory is that Ashland showed little remorse for Rey’s death and didn’t do anything to try to save the detective’s life. Ashland would do anything to get back into Victoria and the Newman family’s good graces. So did he kill someone to make himself look like a hero?

New clues raise questions about the crash

The Young and the Restless hints there are more twists in Rey’s death. According to Soaps.com, Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) takes over as Genoa City’s new detective and makes a shocking discovery on his first day. Speculation is Chance’s investigation will uncover further details about the night of the accident.

Chance lost a friend and a colleague in the crash, and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) lost her husband. Chance wants to honor Rey’s memory, and the first step is finding out what caused his death. As Chance’s investigation continues, he’ll find holes in Ashland’s story.

Given Ashland’s history of lying, it’s understandable why Chance is suspicious. Believing that Ashland is hiding something, Chance won’t stop until he uncovers the truth. With Chance hot on his trial, Ashland will panic and try to cover his tracks; however, his recklessness will be his downfall.

Ashland’s days of acting as a hero will come to an abrupt halt. After Chance uncovers evidence about Rey’s murder, Ashland will be trading his business attire for a prison jumpsuit.
