Phick and Shick are popular Nick Newman ships

Morrow has portrayed Nick since he was rapidly-aged to a teen/young adult. In Nick’s life, there have been two great loves in his life: Sharon Collins and Phyllis Summers. Nick and Sharon were one of the longest-lasting soap couples in history, being together over ten years nonstop from 1995-2007. They have three children, Cassie (who Nick adopted), Noah, and Faith.

Nick was with Phyllis from 2007-2010 and then again from 2012-2013. They have one child together, Summer. In 2020, it seemed like they were headed to getting back together once again.

The actor talks about revisiting one popular romance

In an April 2020 interview with Michael Fairman TV, Morrow talked bout the soap, specifically on revisiting Nick and Phyllis now that Michelle Stafford is back in the role.

Morrow said that he did not know at first if the show would try to go back to Nick and Phyllis. “I don’t really go in and want to know future story,” he said. ” I just kind of want to play it as it comes, but I think the writing was kind of on the wall especially when Michelle Stafford came back…Listen, Nick’s love life is a game of musical chairs.  The music is playing right now for Nick and Phyllis.  I don’t have any prediction on how long it will last, but Stafford and I are going to play the hell out of it while we can.”

The actor said there was “zero pressure” to go back to “Phick,” due to his confidence and Stafford and them “playing it as fun and light and sexy.”

“You know, writers put stuff on paper, but ultimately, it’s up to two people having the charisma and chemistry to be able to pull it off,” Morrow contained.  “Michelle and I have always had fun with each other, and I think that’s the underlying quality usually: it’s fun and sexy, and Nick and Phyllis usually have a lot of fun and a lot of sex.  It’s been great.  I love Michelle…I love the unpredictability of it all, and she’s a home-run hitter, every time.”

A good amount of the show’s viewers don’t really care for the pairing

As vintage episodes are showing more Phyliss and Nick’s relationship, many viewers are being reminded of how they didn’t like them together, despite the fact that they are one of the most popular pairings in the soap’s history.

One fan tweeted, “Nick and Sharon were so perfect together. Although I like Rey for Sharon, Phyllis for Nick..NO!!!”

“Ewww Phyllis and Nick were together, I tried to forget that,” said someone else.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
