‘The Young and the Restless’: Who Is the New Faith Newman, Reylynn Caster?

The Young and the Restless has been on for quite a long time. One of the reasons the show is as popular as it is?

The great characters the writers create. One of those characters is named Faith Newman. While Faith will continue to be on the show, she’ll be played by a new actor going forward.

So what’s the story there? Why is she being recast, who played her before, and who is the new Faith Newman, Reylynn Caster?

Faith Newman has been a character on The Young and the Restless for a decade. Her story of how she came to be on the show is a classic soap opera storyline, filled with sex, lies, and intrigue.

According to Soaps In Depth, the character was originally played by a pair of twins before another actor took over for the role (more on her below). She’s the daughter of Sharon and Nick Newman. Initially, Sharon lies and says the baby belongs to Jack Abbott. Another character, Adam Newman steals the baby and gave it to Ashley Abbott, swapping it out after an unfortunate miscarriage. A DNA test later reveals that the baby is in fact Nick and Sharon’s, and she ends up back with her parents.

Why did the last ‘Faith Newman’ leave?

According to Distractify, the character of Faith was originally played by actor Alyvia Alyn Lind, who started on the show at the young age of three years old. Lind’s performance as Faith on the show drew plenty of attention and led to other opportunities. In 2014, she starred in a horror film called Mockingbird. She got plenty of other TV acting opportunities as well, starring on an eclectic mixture of shows like Transparent and 9-1-1

Lind has gotten some other opportunities as well going forward. She’ll appear in the main cast of the TV series Chucky, which brings the murderous doll from the big to the small screen. She’s also going to appear in another movie called Masquerade, starring Bella Thorne and Mircea Monroe.

Lind hasn’t provided an official reason for her departure, but the odds are good she saw more potential in other opportunities. 10 years on one show is a lot for anyone, and it’s possible Lind felt that other acting jobs could be better for her career. Whatever the true reason for her exit, she’s decided to move on.

That left the producers of the show with the difficult decision on whether to recast the role or write it out completely. They’ve decided to keep the character on the show with a new performer bringing it to life.

Who is the new Faith Newman, Reylynn Caster?

According to Deadline, Caster made her debut as Faith on Monday, April 12. Caster may be a fresh face, but she’s no stranger to the spotlight. She’s appeared in plenty of other projects, including:

  • A major part in the 2019 film Adventures of Dally and Spanky
  • The Big Big Show
  • Me, Myself, and I
  • American Housewife

Like many stars of today, Newman took to social media to express her excitement over her new role. She posted a rather boisterous confirmation of her casting on Twitter, writing:

“I’m so happy to be joining the cast of “The Young and The Restless” and to step into the role of Faith Newman!”

Caster is in a bit of a tough spot. Viewers got used to seeing Lind as Faith over the last ten years. But what Caster has on her side is plenty of Hollywood experience. There’s little doubt she’ll be able to excel in the role based on her resume. She may not be Lind, but perhaps she can create a new, unique take on the character that is different but great in its own way. Fans of the show will certainly be excited to see a fresh take on it.
