Meghan appeared on Craig Ferguson’s show

In 2013, then-Meghan Markle was a guest on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. The interview started off with pleasantries and Meghan joking about being one of only a few TV stars actually from Los Angeles.

“I was born and raised in LA. I’m one of the five, you can pinch me, I’m real,” she said while holding her arm out toward Ferguson.

After touching her, the host tried to do so again but Meghan pushed his hand away. He then remarked about her “hairless body” and compared her to a “dolphin.”

Meghan reacted by laughing off his remarks.

Then things really got awkward

Things got worse when Meghan talked about her father’s occupation as a lighting director on the set of the sitcom Married… With Children.

She shared a story about going to Catholic school and being on the set in her uniform.

“I grew up on the set every day after school for 10 years. It’s a very perverse place for a little girl who went to Catholic school no less to grow up. I’m there in my school uniform, right.” she said. Ferguson interrupted with “Oh yeah” and smirked about the uniform part.

His reaction even had Meghan squirming in her seat as she continued to giggle. He then turned to the audience and said, “It’s a joke, it’s a joke!” before adding, “Kind of a joke.”

When it came time to wrap up the interview, Ferguson asked that Meghan join him in an awkward pause which was one of his show traditions.

YouTube commenters are divided over the interview

YouTube viewers were divided with their takes on the interview.

Many of them defended Ferguson commenting that it was just his sense of humor and way of trying to make the conversation funny. They added that anyone complaining didn’t understand the Scottish comedian’s humor. But others thought Ferguson was really flirting with the now-duchess.

While some said they felt for Meghan and found the host’s remarks “creepy.” Insider Edition noted that another commenter was “horrified” and called the interview “sexist.” Several more chimed in and noted that Ferguson’s back and forth with Meghan was “tame” compared to how risque he got with some of his female guests.

The final episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson aired on Dec. 19, 2014.
