Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releases soon. Marvel dropped the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer. And fans have already started piecing together how they could connect. Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) dives into the Multiverse after Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans theorizing how it could ripple out. And some think that the Doctor Strange adventure could put Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a collision course with a Variant Thor where Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) reassembled Mjölnir.

Is Jane Foster a Thor Variant in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’?

According to the Disney+ Marvel series Loki, a Variant is a version of Marvel characters that deviate from the Sacred Timeline. And Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailers revealed several Variants of Stephen Strange.

However, fans think the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer may have slyly teased a Thor Variant, too.

At the end of the trailer, a reassembled Mjölnir flies into the hands of female Thor, Jane Foster. The iconic hammer seemingly has cracks from when Hela shattered it in Thor: Ragnarok. It seems to indicate that this is the same hammer that Thor used in the Infinity Saga.

However, fans pointed out how muscular Natalie Portman looked in the role, sporting a very different physique than the Jane Foster they’ve seen before. While they hope Marvel did not make Jane Foster a Thor Variant from the Doctor Strange 2 movie, it could be possible.

Despite Doctor Strange dealing with the multiverse a lot, a non-Variant Jane Foster became the Mighty Thor in Marvel Comics

In Marvel Comics, Jane Foster became the Mighty Thor shortly after a breast cancer diagnosis. At the same time, Thor was deemed unworthy of wielding Mjölnir, and the hammer went to Jane. And the MCU could mimic this.

It transformed her, granting her armor and a new look, similar to how the hammer restored Thor’s armor in the 2011 Thor movie. However, the transformation purged the chemotherapy treatments from her body. It left her more ill than before when becoming mortal again.

While Marvel has not indicated using the cancer storyline for Jane Foster, Doctor Strange and his Variants do not seem to have a hand in the transformation either.

Despite Tom Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino breaking the multiverse, it does not seem like the Asgardians will affect the next Thor film by introducing Thor Variants.

‘Doctor Strange 2’ will already introduce several Variants

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans hoping to see the Jane Foster Thor, Variant or not, in Doctor Strange 2 probably should not hold their breath.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness already confirmed several Variants of the (former) Sorcerer Supreme and teased Patrick Stewart to return as Professor Charles Xavier.

Adding in yet another Variant would overwhelm the already jam-packed movie.

However, with Loki lost somewhere in an unknown universe, he could easily run into a female Thor Variant in the MCU future.
