Now that This Is Us is going into the back-half of the fourth season, fans think they have the show’s formula figured out. Viewers know that the premieres and finales usually end in a plot twist.

Sterling K. Brown, who plays Randall, commented that this episode made him scream. So, fans are actively hypothesizing what might happen in the midseason premiere this week that shocked the star.

What did Sterling K. Brown say about the midseason premiere of ‘This Is Us’?

“I was just in [creator] Dan Fogelman’s office yesterday, and he was showing me glimpses of episode 4×10,” Brown explained to Us Weekly. “And the end of 4×10 had me screaming at the TV out loud. It’s one of the more shocking things that I’ve seen.”

The Frozen II star went on to discuss each of the three storylines revolving around his brother, sister, and his mother.

“I knew what was going to happen,” the 43-year-old actor admitted. “But like, when I saw it, I was like, ‘They’re not ready.’ The audience is going to collectively gasp when they see our premiere for the second half of the season. That’s all I can really say.”

What might this plot twist be that has the star gasping, although he already knew it was going to happen?

Theory 1: Kate and Toby’s relationship takes a turn for the worst

“I’m thinking Kate [Chrissy Metz] and Toby’s [Chris Sullivan] storyline,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “Maybe Toby had an affair with cross-fit lady, and she’s pregnant. After Kate’s infertility problems, that would take the cake.”

The promos for the midseason premiere include a scene where Kate confronts Toby regarding ‘LadyKryptonite5.’ When the season left off, Kate found a text message between her husband and this unknown female.

Toby was very fit and active at the gym. Kate was feeling insecure about herself with Toby’s tremendous weight loss. The relationship was certainly on the rocks when we left the show in the fall.

“I know that sounds out there,” added the Redditor. “But I’m trying to think of something that would make you scream.”

An affair between the new parents would be enough to make any viewer scream.

Theory 2: Something terrible happens to Randall and Beth’s daughter

Annie (Faithe C. Herman) is in numerous scenes in the present-day Pearson family; however, she is not yet in any flash-forwards. Fans are concerned about why she might be missing.

“I’ve seen posts with people commenting that Randall’s youngest daughter isn’t seen in any of the future scenes,” hypothesized another viewer on Reddit. “Could it maybe have something to do with her being hurt or killed, maybe?”

Would This Is Us go the route of another major tragedy for the Pearson family? They lost their father, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), at a very young age. Then Randall lost his biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones), shortly after the man returned to his life. Might there already be enough tragedy in the lives of these characters?

Theory 3: Randall hurts Miguel for hiding Rebecca’s deteriorating condition

It’s no secret that something is wrong with Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore). Her memory issues are getting worse, and Randall insisted she seeks medical attention. When the season returns, we will see her receive memory tests to help diagnose her. Fans believe things will heat up when they get the results.

“From the sneak peek, Randall and Miguel [Jon Huertas] are completely different sides of this,” explained another Redditor. “Maybe they get Rebecca’s diagnosis, and Randall turns on/blames Miguel and punches/seriously insults him in a way that’s very un-Randalllike. Especially if her diagnosis ends up being something that must’ve been less devastating if it had been identified sooner.”

Could Randall punch Miguel? That might make viewers scream or gasp, for sure.

Whatever the plot twist is, at least we will find out soon. This Is Us returns from a long break on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at 9 p.m. ET to NBC.
