‘This Is Us’ Celebrates 5 Years with the Pearson Family and Fans Are Emotional Ahead of the Season 6 Premiere

Many This Is Us fans are gearing up for the sixth and final season. But the hit NBC drama has one more major milestone before the season 6 premiere. On Sept. 20, This Is Us celebrates five spectacular years with the Pearsons, and the anniversary has some viewers reminiscing about their favorite TV show before the end of the series.

On Sept. 20, the official social media accounts for This Is Us celebrated five years by posting photos from the pilot episode, which originally aired in 2016. Each picture highlighted major pairs from the show, including Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore), Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Kevin (Justin Hartley), and Kate and Toby (Chris Sullivan)

“The day that started it all. #ThisIsUs celebrating five years with the Pearson family,” the This Is Us Twitter captioned the photos.

The This Is Us Instagram account wrote, “5 years ago today, the Pearsons appeared on your television for the very first time. #ThisIsUs.”

When the This Is Us team celebrated five years with the Pearsons on social media, Moore reacted to the big anniversary. 

“5 years ago today, this crazy ride began,” Moore wrote on her Instagram story, adding a “mind blown” graphic.

Meanwhile, many This Is Us fans took the time to thank the cast and crew for all their work.

“And 5 years ago, I got introduced to one of my favorite shows… thank you for bringing these wonderful characters and stories to life,” a fan wrote on Instagram. 

But for the most part, it seems many viewers are excited to watch This Is Us Season 6, even though the new season will mark the end of the series.

“The best TV series ever! I can’t wait to watch the new season,” a fan on Instagram wrote.

Another viewer wrote, “I’m so sad for this show to ever end.”

While This Is Us is ending after season 6, the NBC drama wasn’t canceled. Following the fifth season finale, creator Dan Fogelman confirmed the last season was planned. He also revealed the NBC drama gets to end things on their own terms.

“Since the very beginning, I have had a strong feeling about where I want this to end,” Fogelman said, per The Wrap. “There are less popular shows that have not ended on their own terms. … I’m excited to be able to end it the way we’ve talked about ending it since the first season of the show.”

Now, the This Is Us team is officially one week into filming season 6, and the NBC drama has yet to unveil a premiere date. But This Is Us is expected to return with new episodes midseason in early 2022. So get those tissues ready. The Pearsons’ final chapter is bound to be an emotional ride. It’s over five years in the making, after all. Stay tuned.
