‘This Is Us’: The Cast and Crew Started Filming the Season 5 Finale
The This Is Us Season 5 finale is on the horizon, and many fans are confident the cast and crew will deliver a solid ending to the Pearsons’ journey this year. Now, it seems the team just started filming the final episode of season 5. So here’s what to expect from the grand finale and everything we know about This Is Us Season 6.
When is the ‘This Is Us’ Season 5 finale?
As of this write-up, This Is Us Season 5 is on a brief hiatus. The next all-new episode — season 5 episode 14, “The Music and the Mirror” — airs on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Previews also confirmed there are only three episodes left.
Meanwhile, NBC revealed the This Is Us Season 5 finale will be released on May 25. The final episode will also air at a different time — 10 p.m. ET. That said, the season was cut short by two episodes. So season 5 will end with 16 episodes total.
The ‘This Is Us’ cast and crew begin filming the season 5 finale
On Twitter, This Is Us executive producer Ken Olin revealed the cast and crew started filming the season 5 finale on April 28. Olin also thanked the team for their hard work this season.
“Tomorrow we begin filming the season 5 finale of @NBCThisisUs,” Olin wrote on April 27. “It’s been a challenging year for ALL OF US. But we’ll have made 16 great episodes because of the most talented, rigorous cast and crew in television. Thanks for all the support! We are truly the lucky ones. Be well.”
Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca Pearson, also teased the This Is Us Season 5 finale on her Instagram story.
“That’s a wrap on day one of the last episode of the season,” Moore said on April 28.
‘This Is Us’ Season 5 is not the end of the series
The This Is Us cast and crew might be preparing for the season 5 finale, but fans shouldn’t worry about the end just yet. NBC already renewed the family drama for season 6.
Meanwhile, it seems the Pearson family will continue to have important conversations as the series moves forward. Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) big conversation in episode 13, This Is Us co-executive producer Kay Oyegun teased the season 5 finale and the start of season 6. Oyegun told Entertainment Weekly:
We’re very, very fortunate to have a season 6 where plenty of conversations are going to take place. This particular season has arced out; the finale is arced out in a way that I think is very satisfying from where these conversations started. And what’s lovely is that this family’s makeup is not changing, so there are more conversations to be had. But I think probably in ways that might be really surprising for folks.
Whatever happens when This Is Us airs the season 5 finale, the Pearsons still have plenty of stories to be told. So stay tuned.
