‘This Is Us’: Chrissy Metz Says the Season 5 Finale Will Be Unlike Anything Fans Have Seen Before
On May 25, NBC will finally air the final episode of This Is Us Season 5. Many fans are hoping the grand finale will add another piece to the Pearson family puzzle. But according to Chrissy Metz, who plays Kate Pearson, the This Is Us finale is so much more than that. Here’s what the actor said about the new episode.
What is the ‘This Is Us’ Season 5 finale about?
According to NBC, This Is Us Season 5 Episode 16, “The Adirondacks,” will follow the Pearsons as they gather for Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Madison’s (Caitlin Thompson) wedding. The family drama has been gearing up for the big celebration for the past few weeks. Now, viewers will get to watch the storylines unfold on Tuesday, May 25, at 10 p.m. ET.
Meanwhile, This Is Us executive producer Isaac Aptaker teased what’s coming next in the season 5 finale. When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Aptaker hinted that Kevin and Madison’s wedding planner might make a “few logistical snafus” ahead of the ceremony. The EP also confirmed the This Is Us finale will flashback to Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) wedding day. But ultimately, it seems fans should look forward watching to the last five minutes of the episode.
“It’s really satisfying and twisty,” Aptaker said. “We give some big answers and then we ask some brand-new questions, and I think this really strikes the perfect balance between the two.”

Whatever happens in the This Is Us Season 5 finale, it certainly seems fans are in for a treat. On May 24, Metz stopped by Today and teased what’s coming when episode 16 airs on NBC.
“It’s going to be an incredible finale, unlike anybody has ever seen before,” Metz said.
The This Is Us star also shared how she really felt about the season 5 finale, particularly because the show is ending soon.
“Anytime we do a season finale, it’s always a little emotional,” Metz said. “Of course, heading into our last season, it was a little more emotional than I anticipated. Luckily, we had a really fun day. So it wasn’t as emotional for me.”
‘This Is Us’ Season 6 will be the last season
For now, This Is Us fans will have to watch the Pearsons endure whatever surprise the writers have planned in the season 5 finale. But regardless of what happens, it seems all the big questions will be answered in This Is Us Season 6. Recently, NBC confirmed the new season will be the last.
That said, it seems there’s a silver lining. As you may know, creator Dan Fogelman always planned for the Pearsons’ story to end in season 6. So This Is Us will get to end as originally intended.
“It’s going to be really sad to see it go,” Metz said on Today. “But as we say, we want to go out with a bang and not with a thud.”
