After six seasons, the critically acclaimed NBC drama series This Is Us is set to come to a thunderous end in 2022. The series follows the Pearson family across various decades of their lives. We trace matriarch Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and patriarch Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) lives from their childhoods until their deaths. We also focus on their children, Kevin (Justin Hartley), Randall (Sterling K. Brown), and Kate (Chrissy Metz) as they experience all of the ups and downs that life has to offer.

Considering the fact that This Is Us Season 5 ended with a shocker and creator Dan Fogelman is known to throw in some twists and turns, fans are wondering if the series has begun filling season 6 yet.

When will ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 premiere?

For the past five seasons, This Is Us has started its new season in the fall, which is when network TV shows typically begin. However, this year, fans are going to have to wait until midseason 2022, to see what the Pearsons are up to. The final 18 episodes of the series are set to begin airing in January 2022.

“By putting it at midseason, we’ll have the least interruptions possible,” Susan Rovner, NBC Universal Television’s Chairman of Entertainment said via Parade. “I think it’ll be a great event for the fans to enjoy this incredible show.”

Has ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 begun filming?

Though we won’t be getting a new episode of This Is Us until January 2022, the cast and crew are already telling fans to prepare themselves for what’s to come. Ron Cephas Jones who portrays William in the series has called the final season, “overwhelming.” “I think they got something coming that’s sort of like, it’s gonna just overwhelm everyone, the actor told Entertainment Tonight Canada.

Meanwhile, Fogelman has shared a script from the first episode of the season on Twitter even hinting at the episode name. He posted a screenshot of the cover of script 601 with the tweet “One down.” The episode was named “The #$%^@$%#*&.” However, Fogleman revealed that that’s not actually the title, but it does have the same amount of letters.

Meanwhile, Ventimiglia shared an Instagram story of himself back on set getting his coronavirus COVID-19 testing started. “This was us,” he captioned the video. “Season 6 covid testing has begun. Last year y’all. Hope you enjoy it.” Since testing has begun we’re sure that filming will begin soon.

Milo Ventimiglia says a ‘This Is Us’ spinoff is very possible

This Is Us may be coming to an end once the final episode airs in May 2022. However, we might not be saying goodbye to the Pearsons forever. Ventimiglia has revealed that not only was he stunned by the show’s ending, but he could also see a This Is Us spinoff happening once this show comes to an end.

“I’ve got an idea of how I would want it to end, but I also know how it does end,” the actor told US Weekly. “My version is completely shadowed by how great of an ending [creator Dan] Fogelman has come up with.” He also added that a spinoff seemed imminent. “I’m sure there will be,” he said. “I don’t know who it will be [about].”

We’re not sure how fans would feel about a spinoff series, but they’ve certainly fallen in love with Fogelman’s sliding timeline and we’re sure that it could work with a whole other cast of characters.
