This Is Us Season 6 closed the curtain on the Pearson family, revealing where each member winds up at the end of the NBC show. As such, fans finally learned who Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) married in the flash-forward sequences. Jennifer Morrison suspected it wouldn’t be Cassidy Sharp, even if she rooted for her This Is Us character. She recently addressed Kevin’s endgame, admitting that it made sense — even if she wanted to see Cassidy and Kevin together.

‘This Is Us’ Season 6 brought Kevin Pearson and Sophie Inman back together

As This Is Us Season 6 brought the show’s timelines up to speed with one another, Kevin Pearson finally settled down with one of his love interests — the woman he’s married to in the show’s flash-forward scenes.

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 14, “The Night Before the Wedding,” suggested he could rekindle things with several former flings. However, he ends up getting back together with Sophie Inman (Alexandra Breckenridge). Kevin and Sophie’s reunion took place amid the return of several other characters — including Jennifer Morrison’s Cassidy Sharp.

And during a recent interview, Morrison addressed the conclusion of Kevin’s character arc. Although she felt Cassidy and Kevin were good for one another, she understood why the show brought him back to Sophie.

Speaking with AwardsWatch, Jennifer Morrison discussed Kevin Pearson’s endgame in This Is Us. Although the actor felt that Kevin and Cassidy were a good match for one another, she wasn’t surprised that showrunner Dan Fogelman decided to bring Kevin and Sophie back together instead:

“I definitely felt like, if I were in Dan [Fogelman’s] shoes, I would want to bring the show back around to the first love. You know? It just feels like such a great completion to that cycle. But I definitely rooted for Cassidy. I felt like there was a real joy in the way those characters activated each other. You know, they were so brutally honest with each other. And there was kind of no filter between them.”

Morrison went on to describe how Kevin and Cassidy’s tough love helped them grow. And they certainly did, even if they didn’t wind up together. In fact, Kevin’s growth contributed to him getting back together with Sophie.

Jennifer Morrison may have guessed where This Is Us Season 6 would take Kevin. However, she was in for plenty of surprises when it came to her own character’s arc. She knew the series would tackle Cassidy’s military history, but she told AwardsWatch that she couldn’t imagine other developments.

“I knew that there was a lot that was kind of buried in there about her military past,” Morrison said. “I also knew that it was going to haunt her in a way in terms of her having PTSD because of the experiences she had been through.”

Morrison continued, “I did not know the bigger arc, in terms of how close she was going to be with Uncle Nicky and with Kevin, and sort of how integral they were going to become to each other’s lives. I certainly didn’t know she was going to run a construction company — or a design company, I guess — for the Pearsons someday.”

If nothing else, This Is Us drives home the notion that life is unpredictable. All six seasons of the NBC series are currently streaming on Peacock and Hulu.
