This Is Us aired its series finale back in May, and fans are still reeling from the loss of Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore). The final episode of season 6 gave Moore’s character a proper sendoff, showing the impact her life had on the people she cared most about. And the actor believes the NBC show delivered a satisfactory ending, albeit an emotional one. According to her, This Is Us Season 6 “stuck the landing.”

The ‘This Is Us’ series finale gives a touching sendoff to Rebecca Pearson

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 18 brought the NBC show to a close, going out on a somber note by showing Rebecca Pearson’s funeral. After an emotional penultimate episode during which the Pearson matriarch dies, the finale felt something like a breath of fresh air. Although it was still an emotional chapter, it left things on a hopeful note — especially when it noted that Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca would remain with their kids even after death.

Perhaps that’s why Mandy Moore is satisfied with the series finale of This Is Us. Although it’s not as groundbreaking as the previous chapter, it captures the heart of the show. While some finales don’t live up to expectations, the actor believes this one succeeded.

Series finales don’t always satisfy, but Mandy Moore believes This Is Us deserves praise for its ending. During a conversation on On Air With Ryan Seacrest, Moore expressed her satisfaction with the show’s conclusion.

“It’s crazy,” Moore mused. “This very seminal chapter, personally, in my life, is over. And it was such a ride. And yeah, the end was incredibly intense and emotional. But I think we stuck the landing and wrapped it up in a really succinct and beautiful manner.”

The final episodes certainly did bring things full circle, returning viewers to Jack and Rebecca’s love story and highlighting how it lives on through their children. As creator Dan Fogelman told Deadline, it “captured something about the human condition and the condition of being a person in the family.”

Of course, while many viewers agree with Moore and Fogelman, there are some who don’t. In fact, a few This Is Us fans found the series’ ending a bit “underwhelming.”

Not all fans agree with Mandy Moore about the ending

No series finale will satisfy every viewer, and some This Is Us fans disagree with Mandy Moore about the conclusion. Although the ending was met with positive reactions from some viewers, others took to Reddit to air their grievances.

Fans called the last episode “underwhelming and anticlimactic,” with some going so far as to say it “wasn’t satisfying at all.”

Of course, Moore warned about this during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. It seems the finale was always meant to be a slow, realistic sendoff to the characters — but she knew people might expect more.

“People waiting for things to be tied up perfectly in a bow with every single character and every single story need to abandon that idea because that’s not the reality of life anyway,” she told EW.

Perhaps viewers will enjoy the end of This Is Us more on a second watch. We’ll have to wait and see if appreciation for the finale grows over time.

The entirety of This Is Us is now streaming on Peacock and Hulu.
