‘This Is Us’: Milo Ventimiglia May Have Hinted at Miguel’s Death
This Is Us gives us a window into the lives of one family, from their trials and triumphs to their relationships. Though the series centers on the Pearsons, patriarch Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia)’s best friend Miguel Rivas (Jon Huertas) is also an intricate part of the series.
10 years after Jack’s death Miguel reconnects with his widow Rebecca (Mandy Moore), and the pair have a relationship of their own. But did Ventimiglia just hint at Miguel’s death?
How do Jack and Miguel meet on ‘This Is Us’?
Jack and Miguel meet in 1972 shortly after Jack meets Rebecca. In desperate need of a sports coat for dinner with Rebecca’s parents at their country club, Jack walks into the store Miguel is working in. Miguel lends Jack the coat since he can’t afford to buy it. The duo are thick as thieves from then on. They work at the same company, Jack is there for Miguel amid his divorce, and they are lifelong friends until Jack’s death.
Following Jack’s death in 1998 after a devastating house fire at the Pearson’s home, Miguel is a helping hand for Rebecca and the Big Three. However, he and Rebecca lose touch until they reconnect on Facebook in 2008 shortly after Tess’s birth. At that point, they hadn’t seen each other in eight years. However, they soon get married, much to the disgust of the Big Three.
Though fans had hoped to learn more about Miguel and Rebecca’s romance in Season 5, it looks like we have to wait until this final season of This Is Us for more information.
“I think it’s probably more likely going to be next season, because it’s the thing that when we dive into it, we really want to have the room to explore it,” writer Vera Herbert told Entertainment Weekly in February 2021. “But it’s definitely coming — and it’s a thing we talk about a lot.”
Does Miguel die on ‘This Is Us’?
In the flashforward scenes, the Big Three have rushed to Rebecca’s bedside as she succumbs to Alzheimer’s. Though she is wearing a ring, Miguel is nowhere to be seen.
“What happened to Miguel and where he is in the future is a bit of a longer-term mystery for the show,” This Is Us writer, Isaac Aptaker told TV Line. “The Miguel [mystery] is more bigger picture.”
Fans are absolutely convinced that Miguel does not make it to the year 2032. Now, it seems that Ventimiglia has also hinted at Miguel’s death. “Speaking as Jack, it breaks my heart that Miguel is not around because that’s his best friend,” Ventimiglia told US Weekly. “But maybe that means that Jack and Miguel are just kind of hanging out in heaven together. I don’t know!”
When will ‘This Is Us’ return for new episodes?
This Is Us is currently in the middle of Season 5. However, the next new episode, 510, has been delayed. “I’ve Got This” will debut on March 16, 2021. The episode is set to center Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) coming together after having just welcomed newborns into their respective families.
“When babies are born, family members often come to visit,” co-executive producer Julia Brownell told Glamour. “I think we can expect our cast members from previous seasons to show their faces in fun and surprising ways. We have that to look forward to.”
