‘This Is Us’ Season 5 Cut Short; Finale Date Announced — How Many Episodes Are Left?
Although viewers cannot get enough of the Pearson family, This Is Us had to cut season 5 down by two episodes. The finale date is on the horizon for season 5, and there are not many episodes left. After This Is Us Season 5 Episode 13 aired fans found out the new schedule.
‘This Is Us’ Season 5 schedule 2021 changes
The producers planned for Season 5 of This Is Us to air 18 episodes, like each of the previous seasons. However, production of the beloved family drama was shut down numerous times because of the spread of COVID-19. It was very challenging to film over the last year, and the show didn’t start airing until late October 2020.
This Is Us takes another hiatus from airing new episodes after the April 13 show. The Pearsons won’t return for another new episode until May 11, 2021. From This Is Us Season 5 Episode 14 promo, fans see that Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) have a heart-to-heart. Plus, Deja (Lyric Ross) encourages Randall (Sterling K. Brown) to support Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) rather than try to be her “hero.”
Only three episodes of This Is Us are left in season 5 — airing May 11, May 18, and May 25.
‘This Is Us’ Season 5 finale date and what to expect
The cast of This Is Us returns for the season 5 finale on May 25. However, it will air at a new time, 10 p.m., after The Voice. Hopefully, viewers will see the wedding between Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Madison (Caitlin Thompson). If This Is Us Season 5 ends with the wedding, viewers will see Kevin and Randall in a new light.
“We will see the brothers supporting each other, the end,” This Is Us director Kay Oyegun told People. “They will support one another — and it will be glorious.”
However, before the fabulous wedding, the Pearsons have been planning, there will be drama. Director Ken Olin hinted at things becoming a “little darker.”
“We’re introducing potential issues in the marriage with Toby and Kate,” Olin began. “We’re introducing something that could maybe be going on with Deja and Malik. You’ll see that when Nicky arrives, Kevin’s very safe haven with Madison is going to have some ripples there.”
Will there be a season 6 of ‘This Is Us’?
This Is Us returns for season 6 in the fall of 2021. However, that final chapter will be the end of the Pearson family drama on NBC. The show isn’t getting canceled. However, show creator Dan Fogelman revealed in 2019 that This Is Us ends with season 6.
“We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons,” Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter. “We have a very direct plan.”
This Is Us Season 5 ends with the finale on May 25 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC. Then the series returns for the sixth and final season in the fall of 2021.
