The This Is Us Season 4 finale was difficult to watch. Not only was the episode an emotional rollercoaster, but fans also witnessed a devastating argument between Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown). Now, no one knows how the Pearson brothers can come back from what they said. But will The Big Three ever be the same or will Kate (Chrissy Metz) have to choose between Kevin and Randall in This Is Us Season 5? Recently, Metz shared her thoughts on the whole ordeal.

Kevin and Randall have their big fight on ‘This Is Us’

The fight between Kevin and Randall has been a long time coming. Throughout the course of This Is Us, the two brothers have been polar opposites. They openly admitted their differences. But when push came to shove, Randall and Kevin supported each other. No questions asked. However, their season 4 fight might’ve changed everything.

In This Is Us Season 4, Randall and Kevin disagreed when it came to Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) care. The Pearson matriarch was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. At first, she wanted to live out the rest of her days with her family. But after Randall pushed his mother, Rebecca decided to participate in a medical trial in St. Louis.

After Rebecca told the family about her decision, Kevin confronted Randall about forcing their mother’s hand. Then what started as an argument about Rebecca’s health turned into a screaming match filled with ammunition from the past 40 years. Both siblings even brought up scars leftover from losing their father, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia). Randall told Kevin that Jack died ashamed of him. Meanwhile, Kevin said the day Randall was adopted was worse than the day their dad died.

Justin Hartley and Sterling K. Brown wonder how Kate will react to Kevin and Randall’s fight on ‘This Is Us’

The This Is Us Season 4 finale ended right after Kevin and Randall’s fight. So viewers never got to see the family’s immediate reaction. But when speaking with Entertainment Weekly in March 2020, Hartley reminded fans Kate was with Kevin in the fall finale flash-forward. But the actor wondered whether Kate was “splitting time” between her brothers.

“We saw Kate at the 40th birthday party, we didn’t see Randall,” Hartley said. “I don’t know if Kate’s splitting time or if she’s making a choice. I would imagine that they’re probably splitting time.”

Then in a separate interview, Brown hinted Kate’s situation may be more complicated.

“I think Kate is going to be in a more precarious situation because she loves both of her brothers dearly and loves her mother,” Brown said. “To a certain extent is going to miss her mom for those nine months as she is a new mom raising a child. … It’ll be tough for [Kate].”

Chrissy Metz says it would ‘suck’ if Kate has to pick between Kevin and Randall in ‘This Is Us’ Season 5

Now, Metz has something to say about Kate’s involvement in Kevin and Randall’s rift in This Is Us Season 5. But ultimately, she doesn’t know who her character would pick if she had to choose.

“Kate and Randall have such an interesting connection. But Kevin’s her twin. So I don’t know where the loyalty lies, if she should have to choose,” Metz told Entertainment Weekly in October. “And it would suck to choose, you know?”

The actor is also remaining neutral in the Team Kevin vs Team Randall debate.

“Neither of them are right or wrong,” Metz said. “Our feelings are our own, and our perception is our own reality.”

She continued, “I have siblings. So I know that I have said things that I have absolutely regretted. But also said things that I had always wanted to say, and I didn’t say them in the right way when I wanted to share my pain or my angst or my frustration.”
