Will ‘This Is Us’ Season 5 Solve the White Car Mystery by the Finale?

‘This Is Us’ Season 5 set up the next mystery in a new future scene
In This Is Us Season 5 Episode 9, titled “The Ride,” the NBC series briefly caught up with the Pearsons in the future. The flash-forward featured Randall (Sterling K. Brown) alongside adult Tess (Iantha Richardson), Deja (La Trice Harper), and Annie (Iyana Halley) at Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) home. Then at the end of the episode, viewers watched a new arrival.
As the Pearsons walked inside, a white car pulled up. The vehicle honked its horn a few times to catch everyone’s attention. Then Randall and Deja seemingly recognized the car.
“Hey, look who’s here,” Randall said and waved. That said, This Is Us did not confirm which character is coming next.
The ‘This Is Us’ Season 5 team on when the white car reveal will happen
Following This Is Us Season 5 Episode 9, writer Julia Brownell teased when fans will find out who is inside the white car. In an interview with Glamour from February 2021, Brownell claimed the reveal was “not way off.” That said, the writer merely alluded to more “pieces of the puzzle” by the season finale. Brownell said:
Viewers will continue to get pieces of the puzzle of the future, and that will certainly be by the end of this season. They’ll be able to put a couple more pieces together of who might be in that car and who might be arriving. Of course, there’s only a few people left that we haven’t seen at Kevin’s future house so they can probably start to guess. But it might be someone you don’t know as well.
Then when speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Brownell suggested fans will receive more clues about the white car by the This Is Us Season 5 finale. The writers also teased more than one character could emerge from the vehicle.
“I will say I think you’ll get a little bit more information, at least by the end of the season of who might be in that car,” Brownell said. “And I think it potentially might be more than one person.”
When is the ‘This Is Us’ Season 5 finale?
This Is Us fans will have to watch how the white car mystery unfolds in season 5. According to Brownell, there will be more clues by the end of the season. But whether the NBC drama confirms who is inside the car by the finale, it’s likely we’ll know for sure in the sixth and final season.
“There’s somebody else pulling up, and we will find out. Will we revisit the future in this season? I’m not sure,” Brown told HollywoodLife in March. “But in the sixth season, you’ll see more of that timeline for sure.”
Meanwhile, the This Is Us Season 5 finale is coming out sooner than anticipated. As you may know, NBC ordered 18 episodes. Then recently, the network confirmed the new season will be cut short by two episodes. This means This Is Us Season 5 Episode 16 will serve as the finale on Tuesday, May 25, at 10 p.m. ET.
