At the end of This Is Us Season 6 Episode 3, “Four Fathers,” Jack gets a phone call, and he reveals his mom, Marilyn (Laura Niemi), died. Now, the new episode on Jan. 25, “Don’t Let Me Keep You,” will continue the story.

In the trailer for episode 4, Jack drives up to his mom’s house after 13 years. The teaser shows the Pearson patriarch struggling to say goodbye to Marilyn at her funeral. But it seems like there will be a few heartwarming moments, too.

Jim Cody Williams’ character tells Jack that Marilyn always looked forward to their “Sunday calls.” He also reveals that Jack was his mother’s hero.

Milo Ventimiglia reveals what ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 4 is about

For now, This Is Us fans will have to watch how Marilyn and Jack’s story plays out in season 6 episode 4. But when speaking with Extra, Ventimiglia shared what to expect from the characters on Jan. 25.

“It’s a heavy episode,” Ventimiglia said. “Jack has kind of taken a bit of a back seat the last couple of seasons. We learned so much about the man seasons one, two, and three. Going into four and five, he kind of settled back into this very supporting character for a lot of the kids’ storyline, which is really wonderful. But this one is right back to Jack and learning how he deals with loss, loss of a parent, the moments that will ultimately break him as a person, that his wife is there to support.”

The actor continued, “It’s a pretty big episode for Jack, but I think for the show also. It’s just a continuation of what we like to do, which is get people to think about the now. Those moments where maybe someone crosses your mind, and you should pick the phone up and make the phone call.”

Now, it seems like This Is Us fans are in for an emotional ride when season 6 episode 4 airs on NBC. But will there be any other storylines from the present or future timelines? According to Ventimiglia, “Don’t Let Me Keep You” is Jack-centric.

“It’s an entire Jack episode — there are no other storylines in it,” the actor told TV Insider in December.

But while viewers will have to wait another week for more updates on Kevin (Justin Hartley), Randall (Sterling K. Brown), and Kate (Chrissy Metz), it looks like this one’s going to be one to watch.

“It’s interesting to discover what Jack’s emotional break looks like, being the guy who’s the rock. In the end, it was very cathartic and satisfying,” Ventimiglia said. “But, man, did it hurt.”
