‘This Is Us’: Teen Sophie is Coming Soon With a Kevin-Sophie Storyline that Might Ruin Everything

'This Is Us' Season 5 brings back teenage Sophie in an upcoming episode and it might mean the beginning of the end for Kevin and Madison.

Young Kevin (Parker Bates) and Sophie (Sophia Coto) met as children on This Is Us at the Big Three’s birthday party. Sophie was best friends with his sister, Kate (Mackenzie Hancsicsak). The pair were inseparable throughout childhood and high school.

In 1998, Sophie (Amanda Leighton) and Kevin (Logan Shroyer) graduated from high school and moved together to New York City. While in the city, they frequented that same diner and sat in the same booth. At 18-years-old Kevin proposed on a whim after seeing several “signs.” The two married at City Hall without telling their parents.

However, Sophie and Kevin divorced after the actor cheated on her. Kevin was working in Los Angeles at the time while Sophie stayed in NYC. This Is Us provided a few flashbacks but hasn’t given viewers the chance to see exactly how the relationship ended.

Kevin and Sophie gave their relationship one more try four years ago. However, Kevin fell deeper into his addiction, and things didn’t work out. He supported his ex-wife when her mother died a few years later. They seemed to have their closure at that time, watching the end of their favorite movie together. Plus, she was happily married.

In the last scene, Kevin visited Sophie’s mom’s grave and told her that he became a star, “like you knew I would.” He also admitted that he wished he could have another chance with Sophie.

When This Is Us Season 5 played a montage of Kevin’s ex-girlfriends and ex-wife finding out about his engagement to Madison, fans worried. Zoe (Melanie Liburd) and Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison) looked happy for Kevin. However, the clip dwelled on Sophie. She laughed and then looked like she was about to cry.

Amanda Leighton shared on social media that she returns to the show in one of the last three episodes. Since she portrays teenage Sophie, fans believe they might finally find out the crucial details surrounding their divorce.

If teenage Sophie is coming back, that probably means that adult Sophie returns soon as well. Typically the show shows flashbacks of the characters that parallel what is happening in their present-day lives.

Who is Kevin’s future wife on ‘This Is Us’?

Could the upcoming episode of This Is Us explain to fans who Kevin’s future wife is in the flashforward? Viewers are happy that they might finally see the background of why Sophie and Kevin split the first time.

“I’m praying we’ll finally get to see the Kophie divorce/fallout storyline, which is something I’ve wanted to see since season 1,” one fan wrote on Reddit.

While many fans are happy to see a storyline they’ve been waiting for, they are also worried about Madison and Kevin’s relationship.

“I still stand by my reasoning that we’ll see their fallout when we see Kevin and Madison’s fallout,” another viewer added. “[It] will likely be a full dual-Kevin episode and will end with some cliffhanger that reconnects Kevin and Sophie.”
