With only one episode left of This Is Us before the series comes to a close, viewers have reflected on some of their favorite and not-so-favorite memories of season 6. Some of these moments did not include a specific tale. Instead, they included moments where viewers said they were “whiplashed” by the family drama’s short storylines and oddly-placed time jumps.

‘This Is Us’ Fans Claim Randall Pearson Is the Most ‘Frustrating’ Character in the Series History

‘This Is Us’ season 6 ended with 18 total episodes

Within the series’ last season, the Pearson family went on a journey that veered between life and death, happiness and sadness.

Each character had their own growth arc, leading them to who they would eventually become in the final episodes.

Ending with Season 6 was Dan Fogelman’s intention when This Is Us began in 2016.

“It’s not because we don’t have any more story to tell,” he once said at the Television Critics Association event as reported by NBC.

“It’s because we exactly planned it to go this way. And so we’re on a five‑year path, and to suddenly pivot and add more because we don’t want it to end, it wouldn’t be quite responsible to the show and what we have planned, and it would start becoming something else,” he said.

However, season 6 appeared to jump around too much for fans’ liking

This Is Us viewers were critical throughout the final season of the series.

They claimed they were “whiplashed” by the storylines and oddly placed time jumps in season 6.

In a Reddit post, they shared their frustration.

“For fans ticked off at what appeared to be the quick ending to Toby and Kate’s marriage, I don’t understand why they think writers rushed it with some kind of forced twist when they’ve been fighting since season 4,” penned one viewer.

“I don’t know. Sometimes, I didn’t mind the short storylines. Others, I thought, needed more time. There could have been a two-hour episode here and there to satisfy fans’ curiosity about how certain stories came to be, though,” claimed a second Reddit user.

One fan didn’t appear to mind the quickness of the storylines this season.

“It makes more sense when you think of each episode in terms of years instead of weeks. I would be so bored with this show by now if they lengthened everything out. Fast-forwarding through all that drama made it more emotional & kept the overall focus on the family as a whole,”

They continued, “some fans seem whiplashed by the quickness of this season and the time jumps, though.”

The series finale of ‘This Is Us’ circles back to The Big Three

The final episode is titled “Us.”

An NBC teaser revealed that The Big Three come to new understandings about life after Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) death.

The clip also features memorable moments in the Pearsons family history, including many scenes with patriarch Jack (Milo Ventimiglia).

Other scenes include the fire that destroyed the family home and caused Jack’s death, the death of Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) birth father, William Hill (Ron Cephas Jones), and Kevin (Justin Hartley) consoling his brother after an anxiety attack.

Also seen are baby Jack’s birth to Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan) and a montage of the Pearson’s extended family members.

This Is Us airs its finale on Tuesday, May 24 at 9 p.m. EST.
