Did any royals know about Harry and Meghan’s decision in advance?

Turns out the royal family learned about Harry and Meghan’s intentions the same time the rest of us did.

BBC correspondent Jonny Dymond said that Palace officials told him Prince Charles and Prince William were “disappointed” and felt “blindsided” as the couple did not tell them about their definitive plans prior to posting it publicly.

Even the queen didn’t know which is why she called for a conference with her son and grandsons at her Sandringham estate. Following that meeting, Her Majesty released a statement that she supports Harry and Meghan in their efforts to forge new paths outside of royal life.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family” the queen’s statement read. “Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the royal family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

Most have stayed tight-lipped so far but Mike Tindall, who married into the royal family when he wed Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Phillips, did an interview in which the topic came up.

While appearing on the House of Rugby podcast host Alex Payne noted that Tindall recently vacationed in Australia. Payne then commented that it was “not a bad time to be away” since there is “quite a lot going on” within the royal family.

Tindall though made it clear he didn’t wasn’t going to discuss Harry and Meghan telling the host, “Let’s not talk about that.”

The former rugby player was then asked if he had spoken to Harry since the news was announced but shut down any more talk about the couple saying the topic was a “no-go area” and he “doesn’t know anything about it.”

Tindall isn’t the only one having to dodge questions about the duke and duchess. Harry’s brother, Prince William, and his wife recently attended an engagement in the city of Bradford and would not address any questions regarding the Sussexes.
