We can collectively thank the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic for a peak in TV show ratings. That said, Tiger King, a true docuseries with twists and turns you have to see to believe, ranks as “the most popular current TV show,” according to Rotten Tomatoes.

As of March 29, Rotten Tomatoes showed a 97 percent critic’s rating and a 96 percent audience score. This puts the series ahead of hits like Ozark, and more. Netflix’s daily ranking puts Tiger King in the top spot as “the most-watched show in the U.S. overall,” and remained that way for a week, or more.

This week, those scores dropped to a 92 percent critic’s rating and an 89 percent audience rating. The decrease isn’t surprising considering this particular type of documentary might not be for everyone. Other rating scales don’t include Tiger King in the top five or 10, so it’s all relative.

Why is everyone obsessed with ‘Tiger King’?

If you’ve yet to give Tiger King a try, let us recap what you’re missing. The seven-part docuseries, from filmmakers, Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, follows the lives of big cat owners. While that alone doesn’t sound too compelling, there’s more.

This world in particular centers around Oklahoma zookeeper, Joseph Maldonado-Passage (aka Joe Exotic), whom Netflix describes as a “mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and country-western singer.”

The seven parts cover everything from Maldonado-Passage’s polygamy (he’s four husbands deep), a murder-for-hire plot against animal rights activist, Calore Baskin, along with the ins and outs of the exotic cat world. Did we mention he’s currently serving a 22-year prison sentence? All in all, it’s a relatively shady world, as Netflix effectively portrays.

Tiger King rules the roost for many reasons. The biggest of all might be that’s it’s almost too wild to be true.

Jeff Lowe claims a new episode is on the way — but is it true?

One star of the series, Jeff Lowe, took to his Cameo account for breaking news: Netlfix is allegedly returning to film another episode that could be available this week (according to Lowe).

“Take care, stay safe and put your mask on,” he ended the clip.

Considering Cameo is a service designed to pay celebrities for a personal video shoutout, it’s hard to know if Lowe’s news is legit or not. Some fans pointed out it could’ve been a belated April Fool’s joke, while others stated that the use of Cameo means it’s not true at all. but rather a paid shoutout with a special touch.

Regardless, we’ll keep our eyes on Netflix just in case another Tiger King episode makes its way to the list.
