The 2021 Golden Globe awards left very little to be desired. However, there was a bight spot amid the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s diversity scandal and the horrible technical difficulties that the presenters and the winners endured. TikTok star La’Ron Hines’ segment titled “Are You Smarter Than a Preschooler?” was more delightful than we could have ever imagined.

But who is Hines and how did he land at the Golden Globes?

Tik Tok Star La’Ron Hines sketch with kids was the best part of the 2021 Golden Globes

One of the best moments during the 2021 Golden Globes was when Hines took his popular TikTok segment, “Are You Smarter Than a Preschooler?” and gave it a Hollywood twist.

Hines gathered a handful of children to ask them some questions about this year’s Globes nominees. “Who is Lin-Manuel Miranda?” Hines asked. “Captain America,” a little boy replied. “What is the Queen’s Gambit about?” Hines asked a little girl.” “Fire trucks,” she answered.

One boy explained that the British royal family lived in the rainforest and another girl explained that there were 500 people in The Chicago 7.

These chaotic questions and the babies’ answers went on like this until Hines asked them about Chadwick Boseman.

“Who is Chadwick Boseman?” he quizzed. All of the kids answered confidently, “Black Panther.” One little boy even added that Boseman’s T’Challa was the “good guy.”

It was a fitting and lovely tribute for the late actor who died in August 2020 after a secret battle with colon cancer.

How did La’Ron Hines’ start ‘Are You Smarter Than a Preschooler?’

Hines said he began his popular segment at the beginning of quarantine in an effort to give people a small amount of joy. “Honestly, I had no idea. I just realized that…people would love to see the kids, especially ’cause it was at the beginning of quarantine,” he explained on The Tamron Hall Show. “So I knew it would give people something to smile about but I didn’t know it would do as well as it did…my first video got a half a million views in just less than 24 hours, and that was a complete shock to me.”

The segment has become so beloved and popular that it landed Hines at the Golden Globes straight from his parents’ daycare center.
