Portraying two love interests on-screen is slightly easier and more romantic when the two lead actors are in a real-life relationship off-screen. The trailer for Bella Thorne’s teen romance movie Time Is Up debuted with her on-screen romance being played by her real-life fiancé, Italian singer Benjamin Mascolo. The movie, set to debut on September 9, allows fans to watch Thorne fall in love all over again as her character, high school senior Vivien.

Two opposite teens find love and a new purpose

Time Is Up stars Thorne in the lead role as Vivien, a highly accomplished student who lives by a set mathematical formula. Living her life by rigorous variables and set outcomes, Vivien believes happiness is something better left for the future. On the other end is Roy, played by Mascolo, a troubled teen with a problematic past that hinders his chances at a good life.

These two characters meet in what seems like intertwined fate and, for one night, start to see the world differently. Nothing comes easy as a tragic accident stops their blossoming romance, and Vivien partially loses her memory of that night. While trying to uncover who she was really with that day, Vivien and Roy reevaluate their lives.

Benjamin Mascolo’s first movie role

Thorne gained notoriety when she appeared in the Disney Channel show, Shake It Up alongside Zendaya. Since then, she has grown out of her Disney Channel persona to have a lead role in Netflix’s The Babysitter and its sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen. While Thorne has a known list of accolades, Time Is Up is the first acting role for her fiancé and Italian pop star, Benjamin Mascolo, according to Variety.

Mascolo rose to fame as one-half of the pop duo Benji & Fede with Federico Rossi. He is also known as a solo artist under the name “B3N” and has over 1.8 million followers on social media. His relationship with Thorne has been public from the start and includes her as the main character in his music videos.

The Italian pop star returned to Italy to film the movie alongside Thorne, with Italy’s Elisa Amoruso as the director and Lorenzo Ura and Patrizia Fiorellini as co-writers.
