Why the Title of Pentatonix’s Upcoming Christmas Album Is Totally Appropriate for 2020
This acapella group is known for its holiday specials and Christmas spirit. In such trying times, another Christmas album from Pentatonix is much needed.
Here’s what we know about Pentatonix’s upcoming album, its title, and why it was so important for one member to release new holiday music during 2020.
A new Pentatonix Christmas album premieres during November 2020
Ring in the holiday season with a new Christmas album from Pentatonix. That’s the upcoming release titled We Need a Little Christmas. This wouldn’t be the first time Pentatonix released a Christmas album for fans to stream.
The band’s 2017 release, A Pentatonix Christmas, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s music charts. The act then hit the top 10 in 2019 with The Best of Pentatonix Christmas.
At the 2015 Grammy Awards, their song “Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy” won Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella. The group’s version of “Do You Hear What I Hear” even incorporated a vocal recording by the late Whitney Houston.
One Pentatonix member shared why this album can be ‘really special’ this year
These performers have been considerably busy recording original songs and new music videos. What was the inspiration behind releasing a holiday album again in 2020, about a year following The Best of Pentatonix Christmas.
“But we definitely will do a Christmas album this year,” singer Kirstin Maldonado said during an interview with Billboard. “I feel like, especially this year, that love and that joy, and that sense of bringing everyone together is really needed.”
“And so, I feel like our Christmas album can be really special this year,” she continued. “We’ve done so many, I think we weren’t really expecting to do maybe a giant one (album). But I think I’m looking forward to what we can do to kind of continue to bring people together how we have in the past.”
As a result, the title of this Christmas album is totally fitting for 2020 — We Need a Little Christmas. This album comes a few weeks before the holiday season, premiering on most major streaming platforms on Nov. 13, 2020.
Pentatonix released one song from this new album, ‘Amazing Grace’
This album comes hot of the release of Pentatonix’s original album, At Home, which premiered earlier during 2020. The group also released the first single from We Need a Little Christmas, “Amazing Grace,” just a few days after Election Day. The song already has over 100 thousand plays on Spotify.
Aside from their music, several Pentatonix members can be seen staying at home on social media. Scott Hoying often shares new songs inspired by the pandemic, including one about Joe Exotic and the other Tiger King characters.
