Tom Brady will join Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in the football road trip film 80 for Brady, and Fonda and Tomlin recently spilled a few details.

During a discussion about fair wages for workers, Fonda and Tomlin teased the film, revealing that Tomlin ends up saving the day. 80 for Brady is about four New England Patriot fans who road trip to Super Bowl LI in 2017 searching for their hero – Tom Brady. “This is set in Boston in the early 2000s,” she continued. “And they’re totally devoted Patriots fans now. They get the idea to go to Houston for the 2017 Super Bowl that was considered by many to be the greatest football game of all time. And so it’s about that. It’s about them getting themselves together.”

Fonda added, “And the adventures they have once they’re there. Lily won’t say this, but she’s actually the one that saves the day.”

’80 for Brady’ is a true story

Fonda also teased, “A lot of it is a true story.”

“Oh, I wish you could see the woman that it was based on!” Tomlin added. “And we have a video of Tom Brady calling her and telling her they were going to make the movie about her and her friends. And she’s so great and so excited, so real. So excited.”

Tomlin said, “I wish that’s how the world was.”

The Hollywood Reporter shared that Kyle Marvin will direct, and Brady, who recently retired from football, is the producer. Production begins in Boston in spring 2022. Brady recently retired from football and teased more to come. Rita Moreno and Sall Field round out the cast alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Moreno posted on Instagram: “Next up, the girls and I take a trip to the #SuperBowl.”

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin have a decades long friendship

80 for Brady joins the long list of projects Tomlin and Fonda have collaborated on since meeting on the set of 9 to 5 in 1980.
