Trisha Yearwood has always loved a good casserole. Growing up in Georgia, casseroles were the type of dish her mother Gwen would serve to Yearwood, her sister Beth and her father, Jack. Not only are these one-dish meals economical, but they are also easy to make and perfect for a busy workday. Yearwood paired some of her favorites, including potatoes, bacon, and cheese, to create a vegetarian main dish or a side to accompany a protein.

In an interview for Southern Living, Yearwood claimed that cooking for others “feeds her soul.”
“Until I started cooking more and more, I didn’t realize that it fed my soul. It’s so therapeutic, whether you’re baking a pie crust from scratch or just having the people you love over and making them a meal,” the country superstar explained.
“It’s kind of like playing to an audience. Maybe the applause is a little less, but there’s something very gratifying in doing it, and there is that ego boost of having them appreciate what you do too,” Yearwood concluded.

Those are things I take with me as a Southerner—and also how to make a good biscuit, which I think is really important,” she explained.
