Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, the 2016 revival of Gilmore Girls, didn’t offer a ton in the way of character development for Rory Gilmore. Emily Gilmore, on the other hand, had some seriously impressive growth during the four-part series. Still, Actor Kelly Bishop didn’t love everything about her character in the revival. She revealed that one scene was particularly difficult to get through.

Who did Kelly Bishop play in Gilmore Girls?

By the time Bishop appeared in Gilmore Girls, she was an accomplished actor. She had portrayed Marjorie Houseman in Dirty Dancing and took on Grace Westcott Andrews’ role on As the World Turns. Still, fans largely connect her to her Gilmore Girls character.

For seven seasons, Bishop portrayed Emily Gilmore, Lorelai Gilmore’s cold and rigid mother. During the series, Emily had some serious character development. Her relationship with Lorelai was a cause of consternation. Still, her love and adoration for her husband and her granddaughter endeared her to fans.

Kelly Bishop hated one scene in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

When Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premiered on Netflix in 2016, fans were excited to find Emily back in a major way. Her character development is considered one of the bright spots of the otherwise confusing and heavily debated revival. While Bishop admitted to greatly enjoying the way her character changed and developed, there was one scene that she literally could not stand. Surprisingly, it was not the profanity-filled monologue that she delivered in front of her DAR friends.

Instead, Bishop told The Hollywood Reporter that she hated the scene where she is working in Nantucket and is forced to describe, in painfully vivid detail, how the whaling industry worked. Bishop told the publication that it was difficult to repeat “buckets of blood” repeatedly because she is an animal lover. While she didn’t reveal just how many takes the scene took, it’s safe to say it was more than a few.

Would Kelly Bishop return to Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life 2?

While Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life wasn’t exactly beloved by fans, they are still interested in seeing a second installment of the limited series. Fans of the series have been begging for more moments after they finished the eight-hour special. It has been almost five years, though, and Netflix has not made an official announcement. Still, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life 2 seems like a possibility.

Almost all of the key players have said they are open to returning to Stars Hollow for another round of episodes. Amy Sherman-Palladino, the famed show creator, has made it clear that she is interested in coming back. Lauren Graham, who took on the role of Lorelai, is also interested in reprising her part. Keiko Agena, who played Lane Kim and Kelly Bishop, are both on board with more episodes, too. Bishop told The Hollywood Reporter that she would say yes to anything Sherman-Palladino threw her way.
